| | I used Photoshop CS.
1) resized image to 56x56 Image => Image size...
2) opened needed size (80x56) blank image File => New...
3) pasted current image. Now image has empty space at the top and bottom
4) used Clone stamp tool. This is the best tool for extending textures.
Usage: while holding ALT, click on the place where you want to copy from. Release ALT button. Then click on the place you want texture to be copied and look what happens  . It's easy and simple  |

I would have still messed it up, graphics havent ever been a gift of mine.

Ah, the clone stamp tool! Why do I always forget that tool exists. I really ought to start using it more so I remember it's there when I need it. Oh, trekkie, be sure to tell m^e to change your avatar over to this one if you like this better.
