FTP Painfully Slow..

the empty calorie
Okay, I'm having a bit of a problem here..perhaps there is nothing I can do about it, since it appears to be on the remote end, but My transfer rate when connecting to astahost FTP keeps stalling, and when it does go, it goes about 0.23K/S for a second and back to stalled...I didn't invest in a DSL connection for this...IS there anything I can do about this? My FTP client's bandwidth throttle is set at 200K/S, So it's not that...and it's not just this one time, it's every time I try..it takes a few hours to upload my SMF directory, when it should be a matter of minutes. Any help around?

Funny I thought FTP was running sluggish aswell, maybe just a bit of high load, and sometimes uploading files singly can take a while longer than uploading the zip and extracting it on server would be. I just tried FTP looks like its running again, maybe try now....

Try filezilla as an ftp program. It is the best ftp client I've ever used and it works really well with astahost. Also, be aware that occasionally astahost has ftp problems. Recently, ftp ws down for a while, but it is back up now, so try again.

The client is usually not responsible for the transfer speeds, but I believe astahost sometimes has troubles with ftp. But I do have to say that I just uploaded something with a constant speed of 40kb/sec, my connections max.

I my average transfer rate with other hosts have been about 50-60kb/s, I was uploading to asta at about 10-20kb/s. Thats about 3 times slower.
I now use CORE FTP and my uploads have been over 35kb/s now. It may or may not have been my FTP but just a astahost FTP problem but I do get a little fast uploads through using CORE.

My FTP speed is normal again, just upload compressed archives and uncompress using filemanager, its a lot faster.

GoDaddy FTP Performance Problems - slow connecting to godaddy ftp
FTP Painfully Slow..

All shared hosting has it's slow moments, but it appears GoDaddy's latest jump to Windows Servers using IIS7 is the culprit. I have several accounts on GoDaddy and consider myself a GoDaddy POWER USER. All of our accounts work great except for the new IIS7 accounts. FTP on these IIS7 accounts is PAINFULLY SLOW... And I mean PAINFULL. Large files do not appear to be a problem... The transfer rate is usually ok once it gets moving. The problem is it takes 100x longer (no joke) to negotiate the open and close FTP procedures. This really sucks if you have a ton of small files (like WordPress or a large site) to upload or if you are using standard website management tools like Dreamweaver. The problem is in their IIS7 configuration. If you want a GoDaddy account and care about your sanity, don't get one of these accounts unless you absolutely have to.
