I spend much of my day removing spyware and Virii from computers, so I thought I would share with you some links to free software.
You may think, I am a smart surfer so I don't need any protection. Well guess what? You are dead WRONG!!! Threats of infection are everywhere. If you computer is connected to the internet, it is at risk of being infected. No matter who you are.
Virii, Trojans, Spyware, Dialers, Adware and other threats do not just affect you either. When you get infected you help to spread the infection to others. So please keep your pc clean, try out some of these products.. All are free, and all will help......
Please DO NOT post like you have been. Making paragraphs that look like poetry takes up more space on each page, and it is tiresome to scroll downwards.
I see that you know much about spywares. Can you please help me.
Recently one of my friend bought a new computer. When he went on net he saw an ad of something like "Win Fixture, anti spyware to keep your computer spyware free---Your computer might be affected with spyware.........." and that all stuff. He downloaded that and then it created a hell lot of trouble. Whenever he tried to open a site this opened up. So I asked him to download MICROSOFT ANTI-SPYWARE as this (win-fixture) was a spyware in my knowledge. He ran the scan and it did catch some of them and removed them. But still sometimes win-fixture opened up when he tried to restart or shut-down the computer. He ran scan again many times but still nothing changed. So i suggested Ad-Adware. Tried this too,but spyware wont go. Can you please suggest me what to do next ????
That is because MS Anti-Spy will not catch Everything.....
Tell him to go to http://www.srnmicro.com and download the trial of Solo Antivirus. Install and update that, then reboot. It may want to do a dos scan before windows loads...let it. Scan and delete everything it finds UNLESS it says it can fix it, then let it fix it.
Repeat this process until it finds nothing else, or you have scanned 3 times. Which ever comes first. Then go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall anything suspecious. Like Web accelorator etc etc etc..
Then go to http://housecall.antivirus.com and run a full scan. fix whatever it finds. THEN, go to http://www.webroot.com and download the trial of SpySweeper. Install, Update, and scan. After the scan finishes and you correct the findings, scan again with spysweeper.
If it still finds more after 3 scans, you should probably do one of two things. Wipe and reload, or bite the bullet and take it to a TRUSTED PC Repair shop.

Lesson 1: Never click anything that I.E pops up . Or any browser for that matter..Unless you've got some surfing experience under your belt.
Lesson 2: If it's the pop-up I think it is, then this is a exploit used through msn messenger. Disabling msn messenger should fix the problem, but I'm pretty sure if you close a certain port that will also work. Since I'm not sure what port it is you need to close, just download the most recent updates from Microsoft...And that should fix your problem. (Though, I don't recommand service pack 2 and up as they also turn off certain key features that I for one like ).
Now onto your spy-ware problem.
Winfixer is a very common trick most typical internet users fall for. They see a nice little message saying: Hey, you, guy who doesn't know anything about computer, download me and I can make all your wildest dreams come true. And so they download it. Thinking wow, this thing sounds neat . When really it's simply there to make your life hell .
To fix this, I wouldn't recommend any of the links ViriiGuy posted, except for maybe ZoneAlarm, and more then likely Ad-Aware. Probably not ZoneAlarm though as it's just asking to be hacked.
What you'll probably wanna do to get rid of your problem is to firstly download Ad-Aware from lavasoft, and then the anti-spyware beta program from microsoft.com These two programs will work hand in hand to get rid of 99% of the adware/spyware on your computer.
After you've run them both, make sure to set the anti-spyware from microsoft to be watching your computer at all times. This should further protect you from most threats.
Now onto what else you'll need.
1. The latest norton+worm protection (I'd recommend a suit product). 2. The McAfee firewall (Just because it's my favourite , and protects you from a great amount of threats out there!).
Once you've bought both these, and downloaded the two spyware protection programs, you're computer should be quite tight security wise .
Infact, you could even do a google search on port scanning too make sure you're safe afterwards (this is more for the firewall). And have the website scan you. Then it'll tell you how safe you really are. (Though, I'd recommend posting which website you plan on using first, as it might not be a 100% safe website).
Hope these tips help your friend (or you ).
Post your feedback back into this thread.
And btw, if the problem on happened just recently a rollback using windows might be a easier option .
Don't forget to continously update your products/OS aswell!

Thanks a lot man for you reply
We already had Microsoft Anti Spyware from before and it was not able to fix it so i suggested my friend to switch to Ad-Adware. It too failed to fix that. The person is having Norton Anti Virus which is up to date and so is his Windows. As I have tried almost everything (not the method suggested by Virriguy as it sounds much time-taking) and nothing was able to fix that so I suggested him to format his system. The back-up was already there so we formatted the system and HOOSH now the problem is GONE.
Taking your advice I would ask him to install Ad-Adware + Norton Anti Virus + McAfee firewall. That might help him in keeping his computer safe for now.
These are some very good links at one place that are useful for every computer user. Some of the links I already know but I have found here some new links that may be really useful.

Hi. welcome to a new world of intelligence defying security. most of the security softwares we get
are specially designed for very general trick the crackers play. i feel u got the trick. right a new
trick. a program looking very ordinary. without any security defying stunts will bypass all that.
dont agree. well i knew it. i have designed a program in visual basic . after seeing which u wont
agree more! i had a program to track passwords of orkuts and gmails. a very ordinary keylogger

I occasionally take long trips to visit relatives. One of the things that I do to kill time while
driving is to listen to audio books. On one five hour trip I started listening to the Hobbit and I
was there before I even knew it. I actually wanted to get back in the car and drive another five
hours so I could get through the book faster. In the end I have found that I enjoy listening to
book much more than actually reading. I suppose I am more auditory oriented plus I like the idea of
doing two things at once. On one trip about six months ago I wanted something a l...
Hi. I just read a report about this on ComputerWorld. Here's the address
http://www.computerworld.com/action/articl...ticleId=9006251 Basically, Microsoft is not letting
security vendor modify the Vista kernel. Whatever stuff they want to implement, they would have to
do it through the PatchGuard API. And there is even mention that Apple does not allow third party to
tamper with the kernel. I'm no security experts, so here are my questions to the security
gurus... If Apple does not allow third party to tamper with its kernel, how do security software

The Internet arose out of the natural need of the worldwide to communicate, and has become the
backbone of digital age. Now-a-days, the Net has reached to billions of individuals as against in
the past when it was envisaged only for scientific community. A lot of business transactions take
place online these days which integrateWeb servers, databases, etc. Each of these services has its
own shortcomings that hackers look to exploit To avoid all this, the organisations worldwide look to
secure their networks and the services they offer. As the existing technologies mature...
I recently put my internet connection through a Linksys router to give internet access to the
laptops in the house. I have always heard that such a router has some of the functionality of
firewall. So I was wondering if anyone can give me more details. I have been a convert to Zone

proving useless. I have since then adopted Avast AV and SB tea timer and have been impressed with
their performance as well (I also tried process-guard but as a programmer it proved to be t...

Microsoft has released an ISO image of its JAN 2006 Security Update CD. The image is available free
to download. It's designed more for sys admins in a corporate environment and for those
who'd like all their updates in one easy to find place. Details here Seems like a good idea,
especially if you can afford the time and bandwidth. Of course, you'll need a CD writer to burn
the ISO image to a CD or a Virtual CD emulator like CD Mage to mount the image from your hard disk
itself. For home users, though I recommend the free AutoPatcher package . It'...

Norton Antivirus Vulnerable QUOTE Symantec AntiVirus Engine Vulnerable Published 08:40:08
07.02.2004 Symantec has issued an advisory on a security vulnerability discovered within the
web-based Administrative Interface of its AntiVirus Scan Engine. The flaw could lead to a buffer
overflow that enables a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code and access a system. Security
firm iDefense discovered the problem, which is only a risk if the Web interface is enabled and open
to outsiders. Symantec has issued a patch for the AntiVirus Scan Engine that can be downloaded...
This past week I have been taking training at work to become a systems admin. Ita not that I
haven't been doing sys admin work for years now but its a new requirement passed down from the

up an ACL on a Cisco router but still good. Here's the topic. Today our lab was to configure a
firewall. The firewall of choise was Symantic Raptor. Yes I know this is old but this is what we
had to learn. What a piece of trash. I found 2 vuluniberties within this lab alon...
After two Israeli researchers published a paper earlier this month explaining how security
mechanisms in short-range wireless Bluetooth technology could be quickly undermined, members of the
Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) are now urging users to take several precautions.
Bluetooth security is essentially based on devices generating a secure connection through a pairing
process. During this process, a user of one of the devices needs to enter a PIN code, which is used
by internal algorithms to generate a secure key. This key is then used to authenticate the dev...
Many exploits, especially againsed network services are buffer overflows. often, what buffer
overflows are detected, a payload file containing the correct conditions to cause the overflow, and
inject the correct machine code into memory are generated. this payload has to be carefully crafted
to cause the correct jump to the correct address. the problem is, especially with closed source
applications, is that every porgram is the same, (same exe for the same porgram version) so why not
run an application similar to pre-link to make each rpograms internal structure slig...
I recently started with DSL, so I have become a bit used to controlling my intenet connection rather
than being connected all the time. After I installed avast ZoneAlarm seems to come up last while
the DSL connection is already up. I believe I was invaded yesterday in this gap. These backdoor
worms sneak in so fast that if a few seconds is enough. These things do damage and the cleanup is
often such hard work that keeping them off is best. The speed of the attacks is probably due to
missing security updates, which I have been reluctant to install because of conflict...
hey, i got avast! since a few days, it's a free anti-virussoftware. it protects against
computer viruses, worms and trojan horses. it's free, as long as it's for personal use. if
you want it for your company, you gotta pay. it's up-to-date, because it's updated
regularly. the newest version is 4.6 you can download it & find more information here:

I've heard Php nuke platnium has alot of security issues in comparison to the regular phpnuke.
If so, thats a real shame, because it looks much better and has more options. Is there anyone here
