if you ever want to install a very simple and easy to use forum onto your website I suggest you download one from http://phpbb.com
it's the leading software for forums in my opinion....I have plenty of other php scripts for example a chat program just reply for more links

If you have an account with Astahost, you can easily install phpBB via your cpanel, all it takes is just a clicks, set admin password and username, den the location of the forum, and you're done.

Yeah sure im hosting one but it hasnt got a nice theme yet www.trekkie101.tk thats with another host, the main smf board is at http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php SMF used to be YaBB SE but then they made it way better and fixed most of the bugs, its well worth it and easy to admin, and pretty easy to install and ill help you if you need it. You can make your own skin by editing only 3 files! (Very cool)

I prefer phpbb over the other boards. phpbb is open source and there are thousands of mods for it.

http://www.phpbbhacks.com

also if you dont mind shelling out some cash, invision power board is a very nicely designed board. (thats what this board is)

I, myself still prefer IPB, which you can get for free at http://www.invisionfree.com

Then ofcourse if you look at IPB and the bloat it comes with, and the hundreds of features that no-one will ever use. phpBB used to be my favourite but then the community there stinks, they mostly are horrible people that just want the latest beta, they moan and groan about every litlle detail, i mean phpBB post a message that the server will be down for ten minutes with pleanty of notice, yet people still open threads like "I couldnt access the site" "Why do you need to go down" "phpBB sucks they shut donw sometimes" "Moan". Thats why i left the site, i loved the forum to start but then the admin panel became not the greatest and it has many features that cant be chnaged and skining is pretty hard. Where SMF is the best forum community on the web, they have boards for normal chat, support, games, jokes, and its well supported, and they ahve a good laugh, and can be serious when needed. If you have trouble they will personnaly help you with each install, all free, plenty of features and a decent default template unlike very other forum BLUE! Im not mad or angry just proving a point.

The security of phpBB are you kidding me? Please tell me you are... phpBB really isn't secure. I like IPB, it has many tools that seem like way too much at first, but once you take the time to learn them it works well, I reccomend you use www.invisionfree.com for one, because great software like that doesn't come free.

LOL That's not biased is it!

Simplemachines looks really nice. Reminds me a lot of phpBB and Invision Power Board though. What would you say are the advantages of this that make it in your opinion much better than Vbulletin, Invision, phpBB etc?

Comment/Reply (w/o sign-up)

Trekkie101
YaBB - not quick and PERL not PHP www.yabbforum.com
VBulletin - Why pay for bloatwear
Invision - Too Complicated to do anything
phpBB - crap community

SMF - Simply the best - Trust ME www.simplemachines.org
