Firefox Smooth Scroll - Turn smooth scroll on in FF.

infamousflame
I love this Firefox feature. It allows the screen to scroll very smoothly as opposed to jerkily. To enable it:

Go to "about:config" in Firefox (address bar).

In the filter box, enter: general.smoothScroll

Double click on the option below the filter box.

Restart Firefox and you will now be scrolling smoothly all over the web! biggrin.gif

Wow! Thanks for that, very useful. Where did you find this? Are there good sites on the net for this sort of thing in Firefox?

I've been using www.firefoxtutor.com recently, which hasn't been that bad, do you know of others?

You're welcome. biggrin.gif There is a tutorial on asta for firefox tweaks. And I think I actually found it in Firefox's options screen or maybe through FireTune (a program for tweaking FF.) However, i wanted to post about it and couldn't find it so went through about:config and searched for it. wink.gif Glad this helped!

It's cool I guess, but it slows things down a little bit. I'd much rather keep things fast and skip the eyecandy.

Well, each to their own. I use a scrollwheel on my mouse and it used to make it very jerky, so I put this on.

Why don't you just enable it in Options > Advanced? It's much easier than editing it in the about:config.

I don't have it enabled, as it slows things down. I prefer to have it go faster, like madcrow. But it is harder to follow a jerky scroll when you're reading a large page of text.

That's pretty neat. It does slow things down, but I prefer them to be smoother as opposed to quick and jerky. I too use a scroll wheel which makes things jerk. Thanks for the tip.

I am also using smooth browsing, just because i like it and i have done it from the first day, just i don't understand why you go and edit about:config file when you van go to prefs -> advanced > browsing -> set smooth scrolling on/off ??? wink.gif

Also, you all might like to check out the FF extension called SmoothWheel. You can set preferences and it has a great feel for what you want it to do. It will even gracefully slow down as you reach the end of a page. It's basically the same as the smooth scrolling setting only with much more finesse and functionality.

Just do a google search for firefox tweaks. There are all kinds of tweaks in the about:config. It is especially great if you have broadband because the changes in there mostly only make a difference in broadband.

  19. Why you should switch to Firefox now
    The GDIplus vulnerability (27)
This is about a new flaw in Internet Explorer and how it renders one of the most common image
formats in the web, the "JPEG". The code that enables a hacker to exploit this flaw is out to the
public and therefore in a matter of a couple of weeks, we'll be expecting a new virus that uses
this exploit. The GDIplus DLL (Graphic Device Interface plus) or gdiplus.dll is only enabled in
Windows 2000 & XP. So if you're running on an older version of Windows and if you've
upgraded to XP SP2, then you're not vulnerable to this exploit. Read more about it here ....
