I just want to know if i can edit my webpages online or if i have to upload it each time i decide to change it. i looked on the faq, and searched through the forums, and i even checked the package details. i don't believe i saw it anywhere. thank you for all of your help. |

I don't believe you can, though some FTP programs (I use SmartFTP which can) allow you to edit the files directly on the server. If you're using Dreamweaver to make your pages, they have a Site option which says something like "Edit on local folder then upload .. Edit directly on server", so if you choose to edit directly on server you don't need to upload everything. An alternative way of updating if you don't like uploading is to use a blog system on your website (lots of people use this on just the news/front page). You will still have to upload some stuff, like pictures and files you want to use, make downloadable etc but you can make a layout and then specify header (the scripting before your text comes in), footer (the scripting after you've finished the text) and some systems will also allow an extra one called "Column", I think. Then when you want to update news, you only have to log in to your blog system and make a new entry.

Yes you can! If you select file manager in your cpanel it will take you to the root of your site. Just double click on public_html folder. Once you click on a file it will give you the option to; show file, delete file, edit file, change permissions, rename file, copy file, move file and it has an html editor. It is important to click on the icons on the left of the listings to get the action you want.

Or use SSH http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SshAnd there is a file editor in your cpanel which you can use to edit/create/manage your files.

It works quite the reverse for me - i.e. clicking on the file/folder names brings up the list of actions on them, and clicking on the icons to the left opens up that particular folder - i.e. for me I've to use the icons for navigating between folders...

Joomla In Astahost
(7) Hi i'm new at this web host and before i create my account i have some questions about this web
site and joomla. My last web host was x10hosting.com. Its very good and has everything that is
needed but when i use the search engine of joomla it gives me an error and i cant build the site
without the search engine. The error that gives me is: Fatal error: SUHOSIN - Use of eval is
forbidden by configuration in (...) : eval()'d code on line 110 I went to some foruns and some
people said that x10hosting have some features disabled and thats why it gives this error....

Why Its So Hard To Get Hosting At Astahost
Feedback and some suggestions (24) I think the reason why its so hard to get hosting here at Astahost is because of its technical

Astahost Can Have A Wiki?
As the first stickied thread of every forum (6) I was just wondering if this was feasible after what Mark420 or someone mentioned in one of the
threads around here. Each of the forum section would have a Wiki, which would have eventually
contain a good summing up of all that happens in the forums. Once members participate in a thread,
solve a problem, discuss, or come up with something, we could put that info in the Wiki of that
section almost summing up and polishing all the information the thread had gained. That way, some
one wanting to search the knowledge base would really find it easy to get what they need. ....
Ideas To Improve Astahost
My thoughts as an experienced webmaster (8) One thing I see wrong already is the title, "Free Web Hosting" on the main page. This just screams
unprofessional and tells people that Astahost shouldn't be taken seriously. I think you should
change the title to, "Astahost | Quality Web Hosting for Free" or something of that sort. This
greatly improves the standards and shows people how great the hosting here is, while the current,
"Free Web Hosting" sounds like typical web hosting you can find at any other crappy free web host.
Because who wants "Free Web Hosting" when they can have "Quality Web Hosting for Free?"....

Free webhosting was never this good (2) Just one week ago, my account with Astahost was suspended out of the blue. I wasn't out of
hosting credits, so it's not possible that I'm suspended due to a lack of hosting credits. I
waited for days for my account to come back, I PMed the admins like Nilsc who replied that my
account was suspended due to "higher cpu usage". I thought, this was it, that's what you get for
free web-hosting. I thought my account is terminated. Then I emailed OpaQue, and he kindly took
time to restore my account despite him being busy with setting up a new server over at Co....

What's the basis for the name Astahost? (19) There's usually a story behind every name. Sometimes the message or the story is obvious
othertimes it isn't. What is the story behind the naming of this domain Astahost? Mine?
Hashbang is a shortened version of #!/bin/bash (hashbangslashbinslashbash). I choose this some time
ago and have used it in other online forums. It reflects my passion for *nix systems and using the
command line. I don't always use the bash shell but I find it's the most user friendly. And
what is the story behind your own login name here? cheers hashbang ....
