Does your whole network have to be NetBEUI'ed or not ? @guy: there are a lot of tools, I think the easiest one is to scan the NetBios port (135 ???)

Thanks for that, I was actually referring the question in order to round off the tutorial, the answer wasn't for solely for me, more for the community.

I think this is usefull when connected to win9x computer, however, when connected to windows 2000 or later, it would be best to use tcp/ip based smb protocol to share computer resource.

How Do I Create Static Routes In Windows Xp?
(11) Here's my setup: My PC connects to my Internet facing wireless router via a USB-pluggable
wireless NIC, the IP address of which is 192.168.1.2 (netmask 255.255.255.0). The IP address of my
router's LAN port is 192.168.1.1. The NIC which is embedded in the motherboard has remained
disabled so far. Everything works OK, but I recently got a hold of a crossover cable, and I started
using it to connect a laptop to my PC. So I enabled the embedded NIC on the PC and gave it an IP
address of 192.168.2.2 (netmask 255.255.255.0, default gateway 192.168.2.2). The laptop&....

Sharing Printer On Another Computer
(8) I have 3 computers that are all connected wirelessly and are able to share files. All have files and
printer sharing enabled also. I have my laptop here that's connected to a USB printer. I shared
the printer and just called it Printer. I tried to connect to this printer from one of the other
computers and added it via Network->Server option. I typed in \\laptopsComputername\Printer and it
automatically changed the shared name to the actual printer name I have on my laptop. I didn't

satisfy myself with certain elemts of a particular program. Thats why my master system uses linux.
Over the years i have found that the best software is sometimes free. Its not bundled and does not
use lots of system resources. Some of my favorites include Comod Personal Firewall, AVG Free,
Ad-Aware SE Personal and Spyware Blaster. Do you agree that the following solutions can provide
better protection then Norton or McAfree? Or do u guys use something basic. Remember that the....
What Replaces .netrc When Using Windows Xp ?
In Unix and in Linux, there is a network configuration file named .net (4) When I am on a Unix system or on a Linux system, I use a configuration file named ".netrc", which

would like to know what replaces .netrc on a Windows machine.....
Layered Networking
barring a networked computer from using a shared connection (6) Since I haven't had any luck with my internet connection sharing problem which i posted
previously, due to the terrible quality of service here, i've decided a second connection may be
the answer. I won't give up the cable because i also have 2 phone lines on it, plus cable tv,
but I will get a 256K DSL connection in addition to my 128K cable. The benefits of this will be that
it's double, plus i'll get the full 256K connection for myself without having to share it
with other users. (I explained previously about the 10to1 ratio used here in pakistan)....

Unable To Connect My Comp. To A Wireless Network
(5) This happened to me many times before and i eventually had to call my uncle over to help me fix it
up. Miraculously, it always works everytime he comes. So the last time he came, i watched carefully
and made sure i remembered everything he did. It was not exactly complicated, and he set up the
network manually for each computer. All he did was set up a wireless network using the wizard and
then set up a home or small office network using another wizard. I did it again with my new desktop
but it didn't work. Even though i set permissions for the firewall to allow it a....

Bluetooth : Primer & Security Issues
(3) QUOTE Initially touted as the technology that would finally free us from the horrors of multiple
tangled cables and cords, Bluetooth didn’t catch on as quickly as expected. Until recently, there
just weren’t that many useful (with the emphasis on “useful”) Bluetooth devices available – at
least, not for desktop computing. Users of handheld computers (such as my Palm Zire 72) adopted the
technology more quickly, as it allowed us to easily attach portable keyboards, headsets, printers,
etc. to our portable devices Bluetooth-enabled cell phones allow me to connect my PD....

Wan Security Question
Question about WAN/Local security. (1) I have a question to ask about WAN/Local security. There is a WAN I am registered on that has a
server (maybe more than one, or one with multiple partitions or something, I don't know) hosting
files that are to be accessed in the following ways: one drive contains your personal files and only
you should be able to access them and another contains read-only communal files. This works fine,
but the problem is that to access any of these drives, the local username and password are an
administrator login, meaning that any user can access Control Panel etc. There is no p....

I'll probably get a wireless one. I'll still connect our two desktops with cable since they
will be in the same room. I have a PDA I'll use wirelessly and I may be gett....

Seting Up A 2 Computer Network?
I would like to know how... (5) Hey, i am wondering what i would need to set-up a network between a Laptop and a Desktop Computer.
The desk-top will be used for storage (programs, songs...). It will only be between the two
computers. I know nothing about this as it is for my brother. I am in the United Kingdom so i would
appreciate any costs or whatever to be in £'s. All i know is that he needs a N.I.C. I think he
wants only the basics so he can have all of the programs and whatever on the desk-top and he can
access everything via his laptop. I would really appreciate any help and guidance. ....
