HTML <pre> <p>lalalalalal</p> </pre> will show:<p>lalalalalal</p> rather than:lalalalalal I think that's what you need?

I want to display the html code, also disable their function. for example: if I type: <b>fjdsgfjds</b> output = fjdsgfjds != fjdsgfjdsbut I don't want any php or javascript code. . .

then, there's no such thing. you'll have to use either a client or server side script. i'd advise php, because then your output doens't depend on the client having javascript enabled or not. but javascript is probably the easiest. http://www.webdevtips.com/webdevtips/js/striptag.shtmlthat should help you out but i'd still advise you to use php though, or another serverside script. + i don't really get the use but whatever

save your file as text, the server wont parse that as html. also try "<" it will show < and ">" show > in html. for example. <B> This is not bold </B> output: <B>This is not bold</B> hope that helps

ok, i really don't get your question anymore, but whatever: normal situation: if your code is: <b>bold</b> they will see bold1. if you want the users to see your html code instead of the effect it has, use <pre> your code: <b>bold</b> on their screen: <b>bold</b> another option to do this is the way r3d described: you use the html special characters instead of the real character. you can make a javascript function that replaces every "<" by "<", every ">" by ">" etc 2. if you want to strip all the tags: your code: <b>bold</b> they see: bold what you need to do is strip the html tags so wherever you find something like <xxx> (regular expression: /<[^>]*>/) replace it by an empty string. if this still doesn't help you, please tell us which one of these two things you want.

I agree with you to a certain extend. There are some styles that all or most browser will support. There are other trick to do it without using javascript or style sheet too but it may not be easy for amatures.

The best way to do it is this: <pre> <code>Code snippet (use < and > for < and >).</code> </pre> Just for anyone interested - there is an interesting discussion on the usage of < and > at CodingForums.com.

Actually, you being a very experienced designer, should know that styling a textarea with CSS is a pain in the backside. A huge range of browsers don't properly support decent styling of it, for example border, background, ... By the way, Textarea has the annoyance of a user being able to edit the text, which is not the intention. Unless if you disable it with ugly JavaScript or something. Copying the code is just as easy with any other solution and doesn't require you to be able to edit it. Any why would one want to edit the code? There's no use for it .. just confuses users making them think that there is use, and they just didn't see it. By the way, sorry for my lil outburst there =) I honestly meant it less than half as bad as it sounded. I guess I was annoyed. It was nothing personal. r3d, btw, you're kinda right I'll update the rules for this place soon though, and state that nobody can do things like that again except for me xD no, really, I ought to set an example. Therefore, appologies Oh and, I noticed pre, q, code & ... tags do still parse other tags contained in them. Bummer. I was wrong about that then. *sigh* Only way is the lame way then. You disappoint me W3C. And, appologies for that as well I owe them. ~lhunath

Div Tags Vs Tables For Layout

Hello everyone. First of all, hello. I want to make a really nice website. I don't want to use

make a good looking site with just DIV tags. Does anyone have a preference when doing the layout of
their site? If I use DIV tags the main graphic on the site will be the banner. I'm not a very
big fan of heavy graphics. The content of the site is actually my main concern, and...

be working under the XHTML 1.1 doctype specification. Some reasons: Improved semanticism - make use
of the elements available appropriately to convey the information as it was intended. Improved
understanding - because of an increase in semanticism, it's easier for your audience to
understand what your trying to convey. Cleaner code - due to the deprecation of some elements and
the strict requirements of nesting, closing and structure, your code becomes much cleane...
