| | Best way to clean LCD monitors? I would like some advice on what to use to clean LCD monitor screens. I tried isopropyl alchohol on a corner & it left streaks. Do they make a product just for this? |

according to a few LCD monitor sites i just checked out, isopropyl alcohol is fine for using to clean your LCD screen though how much did you actually use?
a 50/50 isopropyl alcohol and water mixture is recommended by many as an LCD cleaner. dell suggests wiping your LCD screen gently with a soft dry cloth first; if any marks remain, moisten the cloth with an LCD cleaner and gently stroke the cloth across the display in one direction moving from the top of the display to the bottom. for cloths, you can use microfiber cloths like those people use to clean their eyeglasses. hope this helps!
Hiya..
personally, I'd go with soft felt (cloth) .. its what I've been using.. I run the cloth across the screen to get the dust off.. making sure I don't press on the screen .. just glide the cloth over, then wet and rinse the cloth till its just about 'damp', not wet but damp.. again rub the screen .. first all the sides towards the edges moving in a clockwise direction (or anti-clockwise if you preffer) and then from the edges to the center (that dislodges any particles sticking in the edges) and finally from left to right and from top to bottom.. to wrap it up.. use the dry edge of the cloth in a horizontal motion so the drying moistness doesn't leave any stains.. It seems like a lot to do but you'll get it all done well under a minute.. Remember.. this is how I do it and may not be the prescribed way, but I've had great results over the last 5 years or so through two notebooks. R.A
I'm using 3M's screen and keyboard cleaner, but i don't use the cloth they provide, i only use their antistatic cleaning solution with ... i think is also 3M's CD cleaning cloth!
I use a silk cloths and it works fine, sometime i used it wet but i don't want to break my screen so a dry silk cloths is enough
I used a product that they sold at Wal-Mart to clean the LCD monitor. It works fine I suppose but sometimes it leaves streaks. I will have to try the rubbing alcohol method sometime.
I use something called
![]() Dust-Off Monitor Wipes, they work awesome, and I use them on both my laptop and desktop LCD Screens and they never leave streaks..
I use a microfibre cloth to wipe my screen. If it's a glossy screen I use wet it with water.

Great information in these threads. I used to just use water but that left streaks, so I went to window cleaner, which also left streaks(not sure why..I guess it's because monitors aren't actual glass)
I'll try out this alcohol/water mixture later and see how it goes,
Be carefull with what you use, some products contain chemicals (like ammonium) that can destroy the matte/glossy layer on your sreen ! Best is to use products specifically made for cleaning flat screens, the extra money spend on these products might save you a few $100 for a new screen.
Btw, I only clean my screen using a soft handkerchief and some moisture from breathing on the screen, 100% safe, leaves no streaks but takes a bit more time to remove stains.
