QUOTE(samwize @ Jan 29 2005, 04:39 PM) Yeah, this would happen to winex or wine as you expected. But I find that xmame works well like mame and the game run by xmame don't lag. If you like arcade game ,xmame is good enough at speed. Certainly there are many parameters to compile this emulation for a good performance. It is as interesting as game to build xmame fitting your need! If you are not instereste in this,a distribution like gentoo or debian maybe good selection for you:just apt-get or emerge to install xmame.Especially in gentoo, you can custom many parameters with use flag, here is my default setting for xmame: CODE games-emulation/xmame-0.89 -3dfx +X +alsa -arts -debug -dga +esd +ggi -joystick -net +opengl +sdl +svga +xv 14,583 kB

forgive me for asking a silly question here, but is the UT2004? the same distribution as the windows one? as in is it the same DVD you would use to install on a windows machine. I ask because althogh i would like to use linux for gaming i dont really want to have to go out and spend £35+ a shot on games i already own SN's for.

Ut2003 and 2004 both come with an installer on the Cd / DVD. for games that dont com with linux binaris, then you can download the game on the internet for free (minus the map files and sounds and textures) for example, to install quake on linu, download one of the many Linux Quake clients for free, then copy the media from the cd onto your hard disk.

QUOTE(FirefoxRocks @ Apr 25 2008, 08:04 PM) Most Windows games work on Wine with minor flaws but the more intense/complicated/detailed the game is, the more likely it will have more flaws on Wine. Unless you are dying to play games on Windows, the Linux games and online Flash games (Facebook's MindJolt Games, etc) are very good and some are quite intense and complex. though wine works fine for some games, for other it doesn't. I was able to play WoW but with less FPS than normal, but I have to say that I was really happy that at least it worked. I know that with some tweaking, it could run as smoothly as it does on windows. Although, there're some FUN linux games you should try, like XMOTO.. zomg that's a cool bike platformer or whatever it is, its too much fun and you can download new levels and skins and everything. I mean, it's not WoW, but it's really fun to play! There're also other games for linux, but I find this one really good and everyone should give it a try. apt-get install xmoto or if you're using ubuntu, try searching for it in the synaptic package manager.

QUOTE(FirefoxRocks @ Dec 16 2007, 09:17 AM) Has anyone tried frozen-bubble? It is quite cool, my parents enjoy it to some extent (at least that's one of the reasons they boot into Linux) The games included with Ubuntu are good enough for me, I don't do a lot of gaming. I find that Frets On Fire (a guitar hero alternative) works better in Linux than in Windows. Some Flash games are unresponsive though. Does anyone know how I can install Shockwave on Linux? I tried using IEs for Linux to use ActiveX but there is no such thing as ActiveX so I can't play MSN Zone Games Unfortunately Adobe has never ported Shockwave over to Linux. The only UNIX with Shockwave is MacOS X. As for Frozen Bubble, there was a Frozen Bubble craze at my school before MarbleBlast Gold took over. xboxrulz

What Is Linux
Introduction to Linux (2) QUOTE "Linux" generally refers to an open-source Unix-clone operating system based on the Linux
kernel, written from scratch originally by Linus Torvalds and other smart people from across the

operating system, many other programs are needed to form a complete operating system. Various
commercial and non-commercial groups produce Linux-based operating systems containing the kernel,
all necessary programs, and an installer. These different versions of linux are referr....

available for Ubuntu Linux: the free, open source Qemu; the closed-but-free versions of VirtualBox
and VMware-Server, and the commercial Parallels.

Linux Kernel 2.6.24 Released

This kernel brings a lot of changes (the changelog is HUGE). According to Linus, most of the stuff
is one-liners, and mostly not very exciting ones at that. There is however a new BroadCom driver,
b43, a continuation of the existing bcm43xx driver, you will notice a significant performance
improvement when you switch. _________________________________

Linux And Windows Partitions
Sharing files back and forth (2) Introduction Ok so many of you that use Linux, you probably have Windows installed also,
probably on another partition (an exception is using Wubi). There is a problem that exists with
Linux having read-only access to NTFS partitions. A solution to this is to install NTFS-3G or a
similar package/application, but this only solves half of the problem. The other half of the
problem is Windows not being able to read an ext2/ext3 partition. If you check your partitions in
Disk Management, Windows has absolutely zero support for ext3/ext2/linux-swap partitions, displ....
