It's rather simple, ask yourself the question if the items you supply are worthwhile and would interest customers. A t-shirt with merely your logo on it won't sell well at all, and would be better to just ask for donations then and save yourself the trouble.
Find something humorous/cool that is somewhat related to your site. Or not at all. That's not as easy as it seems.
