What annoys me is that Google supports FireFox, which brings prejudice and presumptions like what Mafamba was talking about.

Opera has produced a good browser now for many years. Especially for the mobile market. Even though its free, the fact that it is not opensource gets it killed by the "If it's not opensource then it's evil" crowd. Frankly there are some militant computer hippies in the OSS crowd that are rather vocal and put people off. I'm not talking about all OSS. I use plenty of applications, like Blender 3D and Xoops, on a daily basis. I think it's great that I can indudgle in 3D animation as a hobby without spending $1000 on software.

I have Opera, because when I design webpages (which is a main part of my day job) I need to make sure it looks good for everyone.

That being said, I still use Safari 99% of the time even though I have MSIE 5 for Mac, IE 7 for Windows, Firefix, Netscape 7 (MAC) 8 (PC), Opera, and iCAB.

I don't know, other than that Opera uses QT on Linux. I don't like Opera. I always liked Firefox over Opera.

Opera is great! I actually use two browsers regularly: Opera and Firefox.

In Opera I keep open sites that I visit regularly, like my own site, some forums, auctions and so on. I typically have around 10 pages open in Opera. Also I use Opera for reading newsgroups and as an feed aggregator, it actually has the best feed aggregator there is! I like to have the important pages always open and get them all opened quickly when I turn on the computer. Opera has this fantastic feature of saving and reloading open tabs on program start.

Firefox has some features that I like better than Opera. First of all the NoScript plugin. When I browse for something new, do searches or move in sites that I'm not regular, I prefer Firefox and blocking scripts and cookies. I am slightly paranoid about security and privacy smile.gif Also it's a fact that more sites work better with Firefox than Opera. I think the best known examle would be YouTube with which my Opera has problems with full screen video.

Oh and even better than the desktop Opera is the Opera for smart phones and PDAs. I've got a series 60 cell phone and I bought Opera browser to it. And man it rocks! It really does miracles for rendering normal websites to the small screen and the designers at Opera software have done incredible job with the usability. The cell phone Opera has saved me from a lot of trouble.

Same here. Mainly a Firefox and Opera user. Opera's simplicity got my hooked from the beginning (back in the old days - about 8 or 9 years ago).

I remember getting this new version 9.0 when it first came out and didn't like it. Anyone found a way to turn off the torrent feature? I don't want it to launch automatically and try to download the torrents for me using Opera.

Also, does this update fix the problem with viewing emails in Gmail? If you have a lot of replies back and forth from a user and you try expanding the windows, Opera will crash on you. At least this happens on the older version I'm using now.

Also, the thing I don't like about Opera is that on many websites, Opera can't render the scripts. The best example is Yahoo! Mail Beta.

To turn off the torrent feature...
OK in the addy bar type opera:config

gives u a more detailed config page and the torrent section is in there.

Have fun with it!

Opera has the security of firefox and the compatibility of internet explorer, although i wish the plugins for it were as good as the ones for firefox, like the one where you can download videos off youtube and such laugh.gif
