I agree, i used to use frontpage but some of its features just got too annoying and it does lack some functionality. For example most of the advanced options require your webserver to be running asp and something else (can't really remember), and you can't use both php and asp you can only choose one.
That's probably one of the biggest downsides to frontpage but i find that dreamweaver is just easier to use and i find it much faster. It's more convenient compared to frontpage because nearly everything you need or might need is at your fingertips. You can easily adjust properties and the table editor is just great. It has really good online file management too if you decide to have dreamweaver upload directly to your site, overall i find it much more polished than frontpage and it's my application of choice. -HellFire The reason I turn against WYSIWYG editors is simple: the code they produce is generally very messy and follows no structure that a human reader would be able to understand. Let's say you've created a project in Dreamweaver, and a couple weeks later you realize you need to move a text box. You attempt to do so in Dreamweaver, but for some reason it doesn't work. (I've had this happen to me. I tried a few times in frustration, and eventually turned to looking at the code.) Then, when you look at the code to use that to fix things, you're met with a huge mess. There's no way you'd understand what Dreamweaver had generated, because, obviously, it wasn't meant to be read by humans--it was meant to show up nicely on the outside and fit the WYSIWYG standard. So now you're unable to fix the site and you probably have to start over from scratch again. And in reality, just writing the html from scratch really isn't that hard--just get a structure going (have a similar structure set up in your CSS file to match your html ones) and it'll be really easy to start on each new project--all you have to do is base it off the old one and make small tweaks for graphics and stylesheet settings here and there. It is, IMO, more than worth the headache that using WYSIWYG editors will bring. I usually have several different basic structures already set up from doing previous sites that I just pull out and start adding elements on whenever I start a new site.
I use frontpage and make editing on notepad... frontpage is good in terms of its codes which is well organized and easy to modify. what i also like about it is that you can use it like Word, and everybody uses it. Ive been using fronpage ever since Claris Homepage was no longer available. i tried dreamweaver but its very difficult when it comes to its tools and menus. Some opensource HTML editors are just so bad with their features but as long as its usable and free, why not!
But I suggest A+ on fronpage QUOTE frontpage is good in terms of its codes which is well organized and easy to modify. Really? Interesting...I've had a lot of problems with frontpage...and I've always found that I can code a page better from scratch than by messing around with frontpage and then wading through many lines of code. I really can't stand how disorganized it is... I wouldn't say dreamweaver is difficult to use in terms of tools and menus--those you can pretty much learn by just clicking around and seeing the results that you get from doing so. :-) The problem is really just the code--it's unreadable by humans thereafter and really makes you entirely dependent on dreamweaver. Then when you can't do things with dreamweaver's features and need to code your own, you're pretty much stuck. :-P Also, I remember there to be some really annoying automation things in dreamweaver...it's almost like auto-formating in MS Word.
