Unfortunately I was also raised using windows and now I have used it for so long don't think changing to linux is really worth the truble. Anyway I use:

Page Designer: Macromedia Dreamweaver (If it's just something quick and simple i'll use notepad) 6. Graphic Designer: I really need to find a good one of these!
darren, if you are looking for a good cheap gaphics design program(assuming you are buying this not downloading it), then go get a copy of photoshop elements. Even better, go buy a wacom graphire 3 tablet 4x5(will make your life MUCH easier). It costs a bit more than elements but it (I believe, check before buying) comes with a copy in the box. If it does that is a perfect buy.
I have seen some graphire tablets around and thought they were great but never really thought about getting one. Do you know around how much they cost? Also I have heard many good things about photoshop but haven't tried it. I will considr getting it.
Astahost's Apache web server? what's that?
Astahost is this site and they use the apache web server. I am hosted with them so I use they server.

Macromedia Dreamweaver is very well for the beginner, but it will never generate a as good code, as a person!!!
I started with dreamweaver, but now I prefer to simply use an editor who manages syntactic colouring (I use "Eclipse").
I was going to forget, it is significant to mention that there is a very good alternative to dreamweaver!! Moreover this alternative is free!!!!!!! NVU!!!!

As for getting up early I hadn't gone to bed yet. I'm on school holidays now and am making the most of it by sleeping all day and going on the net all night  .

i think Macromedia Dreamweaver is very well for the beginner, but again idk about the other ones.
On my web servers, I usually use the following:
1. OS: CentOS, or Red Hat Linux 2. Web Server: Apache 2 3. Database: MySQL 5 Community Edition 4. Dynamic page language: PHP 5 5. Page designer: Usually none, previously NVU 6. Graphic Designer: GIMP and Inkscape
I love PHP Designer, I download the trial of the pro version and I'm thinking of buying it!
About testing your sites in IE in Ubuntu, why don't you use Browsershots? www.browsershots.org I have to use that to test things in IE 6 and see how crappy my site would look because of the PNGs.

Page designer: Notepad++ 6. Graphic Designer: GIMP I would design all in Ubuntu using gedit but unfortunately I need to test my sites in Internet Explorer and Safari. I don't like using WYSIWYG software because I prefer my site to be valid XHTML 1.0 Strict. I do not find WYSIWYG editors particularly helpful anyways. PHP Designer is ok, I've tried it before.
