Well it's finally here, battlefield 2142. I know most people don't want to get this because of the stuff EA/DICE did to bf2, anyway i got it before it was released on EA downloader ($110 here in australia). The first thing you'll notice is how similar the ingame interface looks to battlefield 2, it looks like a mod at first but when you get into the game it isn't. It uses a modified version of the bf2 engine which has added support for snow and rain as well as some pretty cool lighting effects. Apart from conquest mode there is also a new titan mode. The two teams compete to see who can blow up the other teams titan first (titan = one huge flying aircraft/ship/whatever). First you have the missile silos at the bottom which you fight for to blow up the titans shield. Once that's gone you need to board their titan and destroy 4 control panels, then it's off the destroy the reactor. It's a nice change to the conquest mode. With about 40 unlocks and 40 ranks there is enough to keep you playing for a long time, also in the stats department if you don't play for a while you get a special 'away bonus' to help get you back into action. There are 4 classes of awards, from lowest value and easiest to get to the highest value and hardest to get are: Pins, Ribbons, Badges, Medals. Almost the same as battlefield 2 with the exception of pins. There are 2 paths to unlock for each of the 4 classes (Recon, Assualt, Engineer, Support) which has different gadgets in each path - in the end you'll end up unlocking both paths anyway. Squad leaders also can unlock things such as a spawn becon and a drone that follows the SL. The points system has changed a bit too, now you get rewarded with extra points by following your squad leader/commanders orders. In titan mode, you can spawn on any transport ship on your team, regardless of who's in it on your team. There are also pods, they can be used to launch up to the enemy titan, spawn in, or get off your titan. There are a range of vehicles to choose from too, including walkers, a chopper like ship that doubles as a jet but there is a big difference, particulary in the TV missiles. They start off slow then increase speed and they are moved by moving the mouse, now it is very hard to hit targets. Then you have jeeps with turbo, the pod enabled apc, hover tanks and more. The commander has a few toys up his sleeve too, including the EMP strike and the orbital strike. There's much more to discover in battlefield 2142 but i'll leave it up to you. Some negative things i've noticed: - Today i havn't been promoted even though i'm over the requirements - Some awards havn't been awarded - Stat's tracking isn't working as it should - The different feeling when the 'Camera shake' option is on, and it's on by default. It also contributes alot to lag. I'm guessing most of the stats errors are because the game only just came out and the servers are lagging like hell. Apart from that, you will definately notice the VERY FAST loading it's a nice change from bf2. Ratings: Graphics 9/10 - Some good effects but some textures let it down Sound 8/10 - Sounds buggy sometimes but most of the time it's smooth and high quality Gameplay 8/10 - Apart from some of the buggy feeling it actually isn't a bad game to play Overall 9/10 Even if you'd think EA are stuffing up again with 2142, i'd give them another chance because this could really change things around. -HellFire

Yea I bought the game the day it came out. Its a pretty awesome game I like it so far, I never played BattleField 2 because I didn't feel like it was a game I would be interested in. One of my friends though convinced me to buy this game with him so we could play online together. It is an awesome game and just to warn you requires a fairly good computer if you want optimal gameplay. At first I was worried that my connection was slow or dropping out because I was getting a lot of lag on all the servers I tried and my I would lose connection to the server every once in a while. Reality is that the servers are still buggy and need a little work on them. They already released the first patch to the game, this tells me 2 things. 1. They are extremely fast and efficient at fixing bugs and errors. 2. They did not test the game as well as they probably should have. The patch was a major patch and you wern't allowed to play online at all without it so there was obviously a signifigant flaw that came out with the game. However they provided easy instructions to update and I had no problems with the update, it was fast and over with in a few minutes. One thing I noticed is the game did not recognize the installed patch and I had to restart my computer. Not a big deal and it was probably a remote error considering I have not heard anyone else mention this. I love the gameplay, the new vehicles and guns. The only thing that dissapoints me is that you have to play and gain ranks to unlock better equipment. I would have preferred to start out with everything because now people who play often will have a significant advantage over those who do not play as much. All in all I highly recommend you buy BattleField 2142 if you are an avid gamer.

yeah i really didnt care for BF2 or battlefield 1942, but someone rumored a demo for 2142 and i take it for a spin. I enjoyed it far more than any 30+ player combat simulator ive ever played, although there arent too many vehicles in the demo at least, they have the titan mode game, which puts a pretty amusing spin on the game. All of the vehicles that are there are really team-oriented, now instead of when you pile up people in a vehicle and the enemy is drawn toawrds you, almost every passenger has a gun to fire and they cower in fear . plus the classes of vehicles are very well defined, the light is a speedy little futuristic 4x4, which if you ever drove one youd think you were in a Need for speed game, for the programmers decked em out with turbo's and a nice wet shot of nitrous for those runners . I thought it was going to be like any other futuristic computer game ive ever tried, which usually involve soo many futuristic elements that it makes the game hard to take seriously, nevertheless really confusing. The weapons also: in the demo i didnt get a good read on ALL of the gear but VERY DETAILED, even though theres no realistic model to compare them to . The reloading action is amazing, the only demo gun thats dissapointing is the revolver.... Commanders screen is actually easy to use know.. who knew

Once I picked up the game, and got home I couldn't stop playing. It is such a good game. Great graphics, controls, and game play. I also like the new Titan mode. This game is definitly better than the other Battlefield games. Great lands to play on aswell. 9/10 Why 9/10? It takes a while to load, and it has to optomize shaders when you adjust the graphcis options.

But I have never really played pc games as I have never bothered to purchase a controller however if you guys recommend it I will probably get it and a controller. Anyone want to recommend a controller?

I got this game when it first came out, and then I patched the game too. However, DICE should seriously work on getting the map load times faster. Even Quake 4 loads faster than Battlefield 2142! xboxrulz

Hi all. My wife got me this game as an early x-mas present and now regrets it because it's so addictive! This is the first Multi-player FPS I've played since MOHAA (Medal of Honor, GAWD I loved that game!) The graphics can range from mediocre to above average depending on your machine specs. At the low end it looks no better than MOHAA but that means anyone with a recent entry level 3d card can play it. The only thing you really need to make it a good experience is at LEAST 1 Gig of RAM, and to defrag after you install it and apply the latest patch. I have: an older high-end card (9700Pro) Athlon XP 2400 1.75 Gig RAM (Can't justify the extra money for a 512MB stick since it will only add 256MB) and I can play with most settings at Medium, so anyone with an iNvidia 7XXX series or ATI X1xxx series can play comfortably. The lag is caused by those new Titans. I just signed up for the public Beta and it seems that moving them around is like moving a whole game level around within a level so it's better to play on servers with 24 players or less in that mode so you don't get lag, until they fix that. (We're all begging Dice to stick them in place until they do) The music is great and gets your blood pumping. Hellfire121, what servers do you play on? Hopefully we'll bump into each other in a game sometime

well Dice finally fixed the titan lag issue (well most of it). They were lazy and decided to downgrade to 48 person servers instead of reworking the code so that 64 people can be on a server without massive amounts of lag. Most server admins have already set rules designed to limit lag so lag really isn't a problem anymore on most large servers which are properly managed. 2142 is pretty much a modded version of bf2 but much more addicting. I usually play on leetservers, UN, or NAEA. My BF2142 ID is dsc007. In 2142, the worst thing a commander can possibly do is ramming the enemy titan with the titan

Yeah. One thing I noticed about 2142 is the retardedly high system requirements in order to run the game at optimal settings, particularly in the graphical department. That is remedied, of course, by simply turning down the amount of detail in the game. But obviously, one would prefer the game when it looks awesome but without distracting effects [which I add, 2142 does quite a nice job at]. Beware of the titan mode though. When two of the commanders move the titan near each other, brace yourself for large amounts of lag when nearing the titans. I was literally playing through choppy gameplay of 10fps or so.

I bought this game the day it came out and I must say, I wasn't super impressed. I thought there would be a much better multiplayer system and it wasn't much different than the first Battlefield. However, I must say I am experiencing less lag and by reading your posts I see that they must have made some adjustments to their servers.

Contrary to most of you, I actually enjoyed playing Battlefield 2 along with the Extensions for it long before Battlefield 2142 was released. I liked the idea of a futuristic warzone environment in 2142. However, the first time I played BAttlefield 2142, the demo, it kept crashing, so I never got to fully enjoy the game for what it was. I finally bought the full version of 2142, and I no longer recieve the error. However, since I have an Xbox 360, I'm not to into computer gaming at this point because my computer can't handle the newer games (I was looking forward to playing Unreal Tournament 3, my computer is not able to play it optimally).
