Today Forbes reports something unthinkable, something no one saw coming. Something so big, one wonders, WHY IS APPLE W/ INTEL IN THE FIRST PLACE?!?!? Today, Forbes reports that Apple Inc. just picked up P.A. Semi for $278 million. P.A Semi was founded in 2003 by Dan Dobberpuhl. Dobberpuhl was the lead designer for the StrongARM processor which became Intel's XScale when DEC Corporation folded. The company had 150 employees during the purchase, many of them had experience designing different processors from Intel Itanium, AMD Opterons to Sun Microsystems' UltraSPARC processors. Dan's team is dedicated to design a powerful PowerPC chip while using minuet power requirements. The dual-core processor clocked at 2GHz ran at only 5 - 13W. QUOTE("Forbes") Although no current Apple products use P.A. Semi chips, Apple executives kept a close eye on the work of the start-up. Talks of acquiring P.A. Semi began only in the past few weeks. Employees have been notified of the deal.
It will likely take at least a year before products incorporating P.A. Semi designs are ready. The company's flagship chip is at the heart of heavy-duty computing systems, such as those sold by NEC's (nasdaq: NIPNY - news - people ) storage division. But the design philosophy--hefty processing power and frugal power use--are in concert with Apple's directions. Although Apple plans to continue supporting P.A. Semi's current customers, insiders suggest that Jobs plans to use future P.A. Semi chips exclusively within Apple products.
At that point, executives believe the company will have created a unique asset--a powerful microprocessor that sips power lightly and so can support just about any imaginable applications Apple's software gurus can imagine . Source: http://www.forbes.com/technology/2008/04/2..._0422apple.htmlNow, I'm wondering, why oh why did Apple partner up with Intel and produce Macs with them? I would be using highly power efficient laptops if it weren't for Apple's grand mistake of going Intel. I wouldn't have to live with constantly monitoring my Macbook to see if it's going to explode whenever my CPU peaks 82C on heavy load. I just really really hope Apple goes back to PowerPC, the Intel deal was a joke. xboxrulz

Well, after this, Apple might just scrap the Intel processors altogether! And it sounds like a great processor they are working on also, lets hope the next generation of macs come with it!

Exactly my thoughts. They tried to work together, but Apple just ditch their talks and went Intel out of the blue on them. Which was very unfortunate. xboxrulz

This is interesting news indeed. I do understand why Aplle made the deal with Intel. The power PC chips were under-performing for one. Another advantage of the Intel macs is the ability to use BootCamp and run Windows on them if you must. I do not see them switching from the Intel chips in the near future. Apple is just now getting all those who make Mac software to make it Intel native. Another chip switch so soon after the Intel one could well discourage many potential and current Mac users. I am willing to bet that the goal of Apple is for chips for other products such as iPhones and iTV's. Perhaps they are looking for more powerful component chips as well for things like Bios chips and graphics processors.

Maybe for the G4 chips they were underperforming. However, for the G5 (PPC970), they were pretty good, they were comparably just as fast as Intel at the time. Of course now Intel's processor surpass them because of the updated innovations. xboxrulz

Create The Beautiful Reflections Used By Apple.com
(6) Ok, if you have ever browsed apple.com, you see they have great reflections to show off their
hardware/software/etc. In this tutorial I will show you all how to make a great reflection. Step
one: Workspace First you need to find what you are reflecting, and be sure that it is already
cut out (no background). This works especially well with a screenshot of their program iTunes, so
that is what I will demonstrate with. Now, create a new file that is able to support double the
height of the object. Step 2: Fill and Copy Object Fill the background with any colo....

These are just a few of my huge list of problems. I would use Safari, but it is not very secure.

Alter Ego
Apple IIe (0) I was looking around for the old Apple IIe games (Oregon Trail, Number Munchers, etc...) and
stumbled upon a little gem pre-dating "The Sims" called "Alter Ego." This game is text-based (with
some graphics) basically asking a series of "what would you do?" questions and keeping track of your
personality traits. It seems boring at first, but after awhile, you sort of get into it more. If you
like the Sims, this game might interest you. You can start out at any time period in your life,

Apple Iphone At The Apple Store
free calls! (5) Well, I was at the apple store yesterday, and I decided to try out the new apple iPhone, which has
been the talk of the town ever since it first came out. Then I wondered how the call quality was, so
I called a US number from it, and it worked! Free calls to the US from within the Apple
store! I'm not sure if it's intentional that calls were allowed to be made, but hey, it
still was free. I tried a foreign number with it too, but I got no reply from the person whom I
was calling. I'm not sure if it's because calls aren't alllowed from the Ap....

Cisco Vs. Apple
Your everyday trademark infringement claim! (11) I'm sure by now everyone has heard of the Cisco Systems, Inc. vs. Apple Computer, Inc. for
trademark infringement of "iPhone". This is a really childish case & waste of money, IMO. I believe
it was said on the news that Cisco would have probably let Apple use the trademark had they asked.
You'd think a company as old as Apple would have a legal department with some competence in it.
It was Apple's responsibility to check trademarks before naming the product. I explained
this case to someone like in a way like this: If I go and create a coffee brand calle....

This rumor comes about after two of Palms biggest investors are calling for the company to be sold.

located close to each other, some of the early Palm employees are previous Apple employees and Jobs

Apple Switching To X86, And Why Consumers Shouldnt
really care. (9) Everyone is getting so excited about Apples Port to x86 from PPC. First of all, out of everyone who

PPC ??? One Advantage of PPC over x86 is the RISC architechture. But who really knew that risk

Why I Like Apple Less And Less.
(20) I have a problem with Apple's attempts to limit the PC's that the new x86 port of OSX runns
on. In the oldern days, Apple produced a product you couldnt gt anywhere else, a Desktop computer
running the PPC architechture (a competing arch to x86). both x86 and PPC have there advantages.
With there Unique product, Apple also gave a Free Operating system called FreeBSD, which it
customised a little, and added a new interface ( Aqua ) This was all fine and good. Then they Port
OsX to the x86 architechture, meaning that MacOS can run on any computer following the ....

Apple Using Intel Chips
Do I smell merger (13) I was reading earlier today regarding the announcement made by Apple to start using Intel chips.
Although I am not one to jump on a conspiracy theory this did strike me as a little odd when I first

setting up to purchase Apple and kick Microsoft back in the hole a bit. I’m sure there is nothing
