the eternal question that has been answered millions of times It really depends on what your doing in terms of using the computer. Mac has all your video editing, sound editing, picture editing while windows has most of the market and runs the majority of the software on the market - so in other words windows is just good for anything you can't do on a mac! Personally, I can't decide, they both have their upsides, and both have their downsides!

Also, I would say that it depends from the amount of money you have, the Mac is rather more expensive than a PC. And, I'm pretty sure that, for the same amount of money as for buying a mac, you could buy a PC with the professional softwares for doing the same things than on a mac. For instance, my brother uses his Mac only for Microsoft Word, I'm sure he could do this on a PC.

Windows! It's used by the most people in the world. And what's more, Windows is easier to use and understand. The skin of windows is also quite beautiful!

I dunno. MacOS looks great, is rather easy to use, but it does lack the amount of freeware that is available for windows. If only Apple didn't remove the maxxus patch so we pc users could run MacOS too (even if it were to try it out before buying one of those ridiculous expensive macbooks)

Mac OS is a good OS for beginners, but to be honest, it's TOO easy and unchallenging. It's not as popular as windows, nor linux I think. Windows is not a great OS, but it allows far more programming and isn't going to jump out with "Would like to know how to go to a program" or sorts. At least, not in XP or previous versions. Vista, I'm not sure about.

Mac OS has a unix core. So it's not entirely 'simple' and for simple minded people. Sure, you can probably train a monkey to use a Mac better than they would be able to use a windows machine, but it all comes down to preference. One of the benefits of owning a Mac is that 'it just works'. Everything is designed to run perfectly, or near perfectly, and in sync with each other. Hardware and software are very compatible, which is hard to accomplish on a PC when so many people manufacture different machines that can run the same OS (Windows). I guess that since Apple makes both the hardware and the operating system, I'll go with a Mac. The software is great for audio and video tasks, and I've been noticing a lot of new games popping up for the Mac. If you go on their website, you can get Guitar Hero 3 from there, along with other pretty cool games that you may have though would have been only for the PC or gaming consoles. That being said, I am using a windows machine right now because it's rather expensive to acquire a Mac. Best, Trinifawk

Its rather expensive to maintain Mac as you would need to buy most of the software. But of course you like the slick of iBook, and the cool software, Mac will be the choice. However I would still choose Windows as I'm used to using some Open Source software that doesn't comes with Mac. Just some personal view. Cheers

OS X can run X11 apps just fine. Any open source apps you have can be compiled and run on a mac...I don't see what you're talking about with having to buy alot of software... I switched from Windows/Linux to Mac OS X because I can do all of it without switching operating systems to have a POSIX layer underneath my OS.

I say Mac even though it is higher because you can't seperate hardware from OS, which IMO is stupid! Mac would dominate more market share if you could just install Mac OS on other computers than just their own systems, but anyway. the reason i say go for Mac is because, it is based on BSD, which was at one point derived from UNIX, you can read more on it on wikipedia.org surely lol. Because it's based on BSD it is gonna be more stable than windows and less prone to viruses as well, but from what i read some time ago, mac's do get viruses but still beats the amount of viruses windows gets.

QUOTE (grim reaper1666 @ Sep 16 2009, 04:17 AM) from what i have seen of mac laptops they cost nearly £1000 when windows laptops cost £300 - £500 i d say that is a big giant hole in price range. this is another reason why i prefer windows and don't forget there is less games for mac's because a mac is designed for media and windows is designed for gaming and among alot of other things. another thing which i have heard about mac's is that you can not change as many parts as you can on a windows computer so i d that wins over mac any day. Most of those laptops in the 300 - 500 pounds is usually poorly constructed compared to laptops in the 1000 pound range regardless if it's Mac or PCs. I have a Mac laptop and it is built sturdier than my friend's PC laptop, my laptop requires a lot less repairs than the PC counterpart. However, PC laptops that are in the same price range for my Mac is about the same in sturdiness so, it's all about you get what you paid for. Also, I'm no artsy guy, I'm a computer science student and I would rather have a Mac for a laptop than a PC laptop. For desktops, I have a PC at home. xboxrulz

QUOTE (LawlCannon @ Sep 12 2009, 09:40 PM) I've never found an interest in Macs. The only reason I would get a mac is it is a bit cheaper and is pretty good for general tasks, such as facebook, homework, etc. Windows can basically do all of the things a mac could do. how's it cheaper? Even I own a Mac and don't find them cheap at all. xboxrulz

Ok, here's some of my evaluation from a non-bias stance (although it is hard as I'm a
die-hard Linux user and try to truely live in a M$ free environment, excluding the XBOX/XBOX 360 and
its games) Pros: - seems like Microsoft knows my main weakness in a computer software... tonnes of
eye-candies, I simply can't stop staring at them. I hate stuff that are boring and blah. I like
crystal like stuff, all around... Maybe that's why I like KDE more.. w/e. - seems to be more

Windows Vs Linux 1-Security is depend on many parameters in per network, and only operating system
can't to meet to cover the security. For example : a few years ago a company employed number
of peoples to search in the papers and rubbishes of Microsoft and find Codes of Microsoft, and
found important information . Then we can see that the security of a network is depend of many
factors that we may don't care about those. Windows and Linux have weaknesses in security, but
because of many users of Windows, naturally the weaknesses of Windows is discoverable...
