I like Linux and Mac actually but if you're gonna force me to choose one or the other, I have to take Linux because it's more customizable and that it is much more open than Mac. If you ask "what about Windows"? What do you think, developer or not it suck to the bone.xboxrulz

The reason I use Macs are because I am not quite good enough to use Linux or Unix, I like things really simple sometimes. Mac is a Unix based OS so I still posses a fraction of that power. If I did a lot of developing I would probably want to switch over to Linux, all of my colleuges who develope extensively use it.

i prefer windows, because clients prefer windows. If clients prefer linux or other os, i prefer linux or over os.
But i think linux is more interesting for developer that windows.

I personally perfer Linux.
And, technically, it's GNU/Linux.
But I've heard about Mac's.
They seem to have the best of both world's in being having a lot of software like Window's while still having a stable UNIX foundation (called Darwin).

At the moment I prefer Windows beecause I have always used it and its quite simple. If I really wanted to get a truly brilliant website going and decided not to be stingy and get a web server at home I would probably go with Linux though. It has no viruses, is widely supported and is of course free. It is probably the most secure OS available, which is what you want when hosting a website

I prefer Window because i never use another OS. Window can support with the most program. I use Window in my school or cafe when i came back to home, i use Window. I'v ever seen Linux in computer shop. I want to try for sometimes but now i'm enjoying with Window.

I chose Windows because its what I have been taught and what most people use. Linux programming is probably easier than windows if you are using c++ but there are a bunch of languages that are used in both platforms like php, python, perl just to name a few. I am a big fan of cross-platform programming so languages like java or perl are good.

I use Windows 2000 for the time being until I manage to find a copy of System 9.2.2. for my Macintosh. I prefer the Macintosh, although I'm really most comfortable with text-based interfaces. I used to use slackware linux, and I'm currently downloading Solaris 9 to either replace or dual-boot with Windows 2000. Most likely replace it. Windows may have the largest user base out there, but even in 2000, the Blue Screen Of Death STILL says hi to me often. I've never used solaris before, so that will be a little different.

I like Linux because I am a hardcore developer and I'm running 2 Linux servers at my house. I prefer Redhat Linux ES. I also have windows computers and Macintosh computer that I use. I mainly use the Macs for Extreme video editing which I do for local bands, my church, and my school. I mainly use the Windows comps for my Work which needs windows to run the software that I need.

I always prefer Linux to Windows. Ok, before everyone complains that windows is so much easier, let me clarify my statement.

With linux, there is a much bigger group of people that are willing to help me when I have problems outside of the common ones. From one complete install of linux, I get so much software for free that would take me months of hunting down, and spending countless dollars were I to try to match it in windows.

Anytime I want to start an opensource project, I always have plenty of help from people using linux. Most windows programmers just say "what's opensource?"

But my biggest reason for loving programming linux, is that if I want to make a program, there's a good chance that not only is there one simular to what I want to do, but I can see how they did it, so I won't have to spend hundreds of hours figuring it out.

  9. How Linux Is Being Subverted - (0)
Linux is in great danger at the moment. That danger started when Microsoft cut their deal with
Novell. Many open source advocates recognized this and there was a hue and cry over it. This furor
has died down to a large extent and apathy has set in. To combat this the Free Software Foundation
brought out their GPLv3 but this seems to be too little too late.
