Yeah, I agree with you Chiiyo. With pure text editors, you have more control on your code and also make it neat. I hate M$ Frontpage the most, I is more likely a word processing soft than a web design tool.I would suggest EditPlus for coding and Photoshop for designing (of course PPS always does good jobs)....

IDM's UltraEdit (Text Editor)
Microsoft Wordpad (Text Editor)
Microsoft Notepad (Text Editor)
Microsoft Frontpage (Specific Source Editing)
Macromedia Fireworks (Image Editing)
Adobe Photoshop (Image Editing)
Adobe GoLive (Graphic Table Design)

to make a website or develop it i use:

microsoft notepad - to edit my coding and veiw the source quickly and efficiently.

adobe photoshop - to produce the layout of the website and the images that goes on to the site.

macromedia dreaweaver - i rarely use this. i use it to check my mistakes on the coding that i wrote.

netscape - to check the overall website
microsoft internet explorer - also to check the overall website
firefox - same here too

nothing much. but still makes a great working website.

I use Dreamweaver MX to build the site, but do all the graphics using Illustrator CS and Photoshop 7. Illustrator can make really cool Flash graphics just by building your frames as layers. I did a banner graphic for a company I used to work for in Illustrator and it came out just fine!
www.crestsign.com is where it is and if you scroll down about half-way, you can see the changing banner!

Cheers,
Phoenix smile.gif

ps... I will say one thing for Fireworks... it does build much more optimized GIF's. They come out looking the same as Photoshop or ImageReady, but are smaller thus making them more web-friendly!

I use Photoshop, Imageready, and Notepad to make my websites.

Design the layout/template in Photoshop, slice it up, maybe make some mouse over animations with Imageready, then do the rest with notepad.

I don't like wysiwyg editors like Dreamweaver...to me it's much easier to edit with a text editor. Plus things like Dreamweaver cost 600 bucks or something...why would you pay for something like that. Just google for some html tutorials, and BAM dreamweaver becomes obsolete tongue.gif

Welcome here Phoenix Bro wink.gif Glad to see you smile.gif Anyhow, I have a wee comment about CrestSign's site, the navigation is only present on the index page, and thus making prospective customers having to use (this can not be correct grammar) the "back" button in their browser. Just a small comment smile.gif

Hmm for me I only use a notepad-like software to type my code, and Photoshop to do editing for my photos that I put online. And of course a browser to view it, and various online validators and emulators to make sure it's compatible and stuff.

And my trusty paper notebook for sketching design ideas.

So software:
On Windows: Editpad and Photoshop 7
On Mac: Smultron and Photoshop CS

Simple isn't it?

I don't like them, either. They always manage to screw up my code for some reason. I've had problems with all the Macromedia software in the past. It could be that my computer is just too slow (believe me, it's as slow as molasses and right now I can't afford to upgrade it just yet).

Does anyone use Evrsoft 1st Page 2000 or heard of it? I like it. It runs fast and has about as many features as those expensive editiors, but it's free (I don't mean to advertise, but this works for me since I'm broke). I use it for the html tidy feature (checks for errors) and it comes with a nice little library of javascript/cgi scripts you can use.

Other than 1st Page, this is all the software I've ever used for website design:

Notepad (for general html and quick coding)
Paint Shop Pro 7 (for all my graphic design needs)
CuteFTP (to upload everything)
Internet Explorer 6 & Mozilla Firefox 1.0 (to test how sites look in different browsers)

I haven't learned Flash yet, but I just got some Flash software the other day, so I'm going to play with it for a while and come up with something. smile.gif
