haha.. yeaah qwiji.. completely agree with you again.. What I'm going to say is so goddamned cliche - but I'll still go ahead and say it - "East Or West, Linux is the BEST".. lol.. (sic.) .. anyways.. have you ever given QNX a try ? That's a damned good system too and the GUI (named Photon) is Ultra Smooth and fast. Only problem they don't have their drivers organized properly.. you'll have to look around all over the net.. Grab another of the free downloads at http://www.qnx.org . The .iso distro - runs directly off the CD (like Knoppix LiveCD or Lindows) except that this OS has been around much longer than those two. As also you can make a native installation from the same CD onto your HDD... The shell is pretty similar to bash - though with very little pre-configuration. They also had another ditro with a trmendously scaled down version of the same OS (surprisingly including the GUI) - that could run off a couple of 1.44meg floppies. I found the repository yesterday (something like openqnx.org) - but lost the link again. However, try googling for "smallest os with gui" and you'll get to the site - or else check the shoutbox for the link. It should be there somewhere in yesterdays shouts... All the best

QUOTE (JustinSquare @ Feb 22 2005, 01:21 AM) For some apparent reason, i don't trust it. Sure i mean it's linux, but how real could a free cd be............ That's unfair becuase if you think about it, since they recieve lots of donations, and CDs cost about £1 shipped, it's actually not much money. If you don't believe it's any good just download the ISO and have a try, or even better, order the CD from their official website.

It's good, but the trial I got from Linux User and Developer (UK) was messed up so my kernal had an error with the IO-APIC and the timer. So it was really slow, the official distro isn't supposed to have any issues, plus there is one for the AMD64 architecure! (that might be what my problem was, i used the reg.)

You can use WINE which can run some Windows programs, they aim to make all Windows programs run from it, but it's still early stages. Depending on what programs you want to run, WINE maybe able to do it for you. Cheers, MC

I hate to bring back an old thread but, I got my copies today and I'm loving it! Note: I also found out that Ubuntu doesn't like HP media center PCs X Server refused to start and I had a broken shell. I ran the Live CD on another (older, MUCH older) computer and works like a charm! I'm ordering more for when I get my computer building service going, I'm going to offer Ubuntu as an OS option next to Windows... or thow in a copy of it [N]F

My computer repair guy ordered a bunch of these cd's from ubuntu and now gives them away to anyone he can talk into trying Linux. He gave me both the Install CD and the Live CD so I could try it without installing it. I tried it and I love it! I'm going to do a dual boot install this week and I'll bet I'm a Linux convert by the end of the month!

Choice Of Motherboard For Linux Virtualization

Virtualization is a relatively arcane subject, but it is one which is very rapidly growing, and
apparently very "hot" in commercial enterprises. For the hobbyist with multiple computers (I have
8), it offers the possibility of taking snapshots of running, fully configured applications and
operating systems, and transferring some or all of them onto a single computer platform. First, it
saves energy. Second, once the conversion has been made from real hardware to a virtual "guest,"
the driver problems associated with moving from one hardware platform to another are sol...

learning curve. Since then I've been using Slackware as my main OS and couldn'...
