I have a folder of 50 mb worth of pics that I need to transfer to my friend for a photo project. Now, I was trying to zip it but no matter what zip program I used, it barely decreased the size. Are pictures just not zippable?
Also, are there any free image-hosting sites that allow larger file sizes? I normally use imageshack.us, but that limits file sizes (like most free hosting sites). I even looked into free websites, but most of them limit files sizes to be uploaded.
The only other option we're trying now is transfer via AIM, but that's hard because it's hard to be online at the same time. So it'd be great to have some kind of online "depository" ...or at least be able to zip these things!!
Hmm. Usually I find that photos stay pretty much the same size when you zip them, probably because formats like jpeg and gif are already made to compress information, so not much MORE normal compression can be gotten out of them. Using a more powerful zipping utility where you can specify amount of compression usually helps, but you have to uncompress it the same way of course.
Have you tried Yousendit yet? Basically you upload your file, up to 1 GB, I think, onto yousendit's servers, and then yousendit will provide a link that they email to your friend, and then he has 7 days to download the file from yousendit's servers, after which yousendit will delete the file. It's good for one-time transfers.
If you're looking for a place upload your photos for display or storage, I usually use Photobucket. Yes, Photobucket does have limits on each picture (250kb and below) and the bandwidth as well as total amount of pace you can use, but because the stuff that I store online is already downsized and compressed for online viewing, each file is only around 60kb and thus I get to store a lot of photos there. It's not good for protection if you upload too-good quality pictures anyway.
I also recomed u get an image optimizer to make your photos smaller and easier to send...
Another option:
Get a gmail account, (your friend has to get one too) and send 5 messages each containing 10 mb of photos.... or.... get the Gdrive (seek this foprums for info on this) and upload your images and sahre your pass with your friend...
if you are talking bitmaps, then they will compress, jpeg's and png's are alreay compressed.
as for transfereing them, use ftp.get an ftp server from sourceforge, setup a username and password that is allowed to download the photo's (zip them anyway for convinence of only downloading one file)
then you friend can download them by pointing a web browser (or download manager) at ftp://username@Your-Ip-Address/ then entering the password when prompted.

YouSendIt only works with single files, so be sure to at least convert the folder into a .ZIP, no matter how little it is compressed. You are just looking to make it one file, so that YSI will recognize it and upload it.
Folders don't work on YSI. Just take two extra minutes to zip it.
I often use sendspace.com for files upto 300MB in size. We had a large 280MB powerpoint file that we had to share between offices and this was ideal to email the link back and forth.
50 MB pictures isn't that much. If a friend lives close, how about using a USB flash drive? If not, there are several options: 1. Use AstaHost. Transfer files using FTP to your AstaHost server and then your friend can download them from the public_html folder. 2. A lot of sites allow transfers of up to 250 or 500 MB. Are you sure you haven't missed the best ones? 3. Transfer using IM. You can use AIM, Yahoo! Messenger, Windows Live Messenger or GTalk. I have never tried 50 MB before, but it worked for 26-27MB.
Those are plenty of options. Just use the best one.

While it's still a teaser at the moment, John Nack (Senior Product Manager for Photoshop) has
confirmed the development of Photoshop Express. It's a free online photo editor that's not
meant to replace Adobe's current offerings, but "make Adobe imaging technology immediately
accessible to large numbers of people". http://blogs.adobe.com/jnack/2007/09/photoshop_expre.html
Premiere Express isn't available as an end user product from Adobe - they only sell it to some

This an article entitled "Google, Microsoft and Apple building online storage havens: you win" I
just found on digg. http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20070...ns-you-win.html My comments: -
Yes, I suspected that ever-growing gmail storage space wouldn't last forever. Caveat: check this
out: "Gmail Going Huge: 9000MB+" http://mashable.com/2007/08/09/gmail-going-huge-9000mb/ - They
can promise you 50 GB of online storage, but if they are going to impose limits on the file size,
that's going to make the whole thing worthless. - I'll be sticking with m....

I have been working on a royalty-free music background site at http://www.3buckaudio.com/catalog
and have started uploading my inventory of music. If you have a few minutes ... can you see if
there are any previews missing? Also, there are some freebies in there but not many yet. Help
yourself of course to the free stuff. I'm not concerned about the small size of the inventory.
I have hundreds to add. It will just take me a while to get them all uploaded. Next ... if I can
take a quick survey to help with my research ... if you purchase music for backgroun....

I will soon be adding a message board to my web site, which deals with several British bands.
Because of that, I would also like to have a "Multimedia" area on my forums, where members would be
able to share download links - of course, nothing would be hosted on my server. However, that's
where I encounter certain problems. I could swear that nothing like that was legal, but I might be
wrong. I have found numerous big forums (and when I say big, I mean over 20,000 members) that also
have this. Now, if it were illegal, somebody would have stopped them by now, right? ....

Making money online is a tricky business. It’s not about building a Website and throwing a couple
of banner ads around as many new-comers seem to believe. There’s a lot to learn in order to build
an Internet business that actually *works.* But the problem has always been that there is a
gigantic amount of useless information floating around, a truckload of self-proclaimed ”Experts,”
but very few bits of useful directions that can put your feet on firm ground, without costing you
too much money, time, or effort. Whenever someone asked me what the best source for s....

did not. It's just a freelance website where people can request jobs to be done and providers

explanation of how it works. If anyone is interested in it the site is: http://www.getafr....

Hi all ! I need to put online a little shop and I am really a newbie in this. I have found a
software called osCommerce, it is php based and is free also! What do you think about this software?
is good enough ? Anybody know any other solution (freeware if possible) ? Is there any tutorial on
how to put a store online and how to do easily ? I'm concerned about what could happen if
someone steal information of customers of the shop's database. What things I need to have in
mind about security ? I'm plenty of doubts, so I'll appreciate any suggestion. ....
Everyone wants to make money! I suppose this is a fair assumption, don't you agree?
/smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> But making money
has never been an easy thing to do. If it was, we'd all be millionaires. There are too many
obstacles in the so-called 'real life'... obstacles which prevent most of us from actually
making a good living. Age, for example... and a college education. Lack of experience, sparcity of
decent jobs, and location are also important factors in this. So when people heard abou....

The (Nearly) Ultimate Music Posting Guide For several years, indie and established musicians
relied on MP3.com as their primary off-site music host. While there were a small number of other
similar sites, and MP3.com had its share of problems, it was still THE place to get your music
posted. It also allowed artists and music fans to create "Stations" where customized playlists could
be created and shared with the world. Vivendi Universal eventually bought MP3.com and ultimately
shut it down only to rebuild it as a site for "established" artists, leaving all of the in....
