Theory Of Special Relativity Holds Up Again

Researchers at MIT performed the most rigourous test of the theory of special relativity using a bunch of stuff I don't understand. So much for trying to summarize the article

It is simple enough. The were verifying E=mc^2 in the absorption of a neutron by an atomic nucleus which creates an atom of a different atomic element.

The mass of the new atom is less than the mass of the old atom plus the mass of the neutron, so the difference in mass must be released by the atom in the form of high energy light (gamma ray radiation). By measuring the energy of this light they can veryfy that it is exactly equal to the difference in mass times the speed of light squared.

The fundamental theory of Quantum physics is :
E=mc2
where E is energy of a system
m is mass of the system
and c is speed of light (300000000 m/s)
This gives us the energy that we get by nuclear reactors or atom bombs. There the mass reduced of
Uranium (an element) is very small but gives enough energy to destroy a big city by the formula E=mc2

Other derivations of Quantum physics are

1)Time dilation
time meaeured by a high speed moving body is some what different (given by t=t/(squareroot of 1-(v2/c2)))
it helps us in establishin connection with satelites..
(sorry if the formula isnt understandable there are no keys for those mathematical exression)

2)Mass Variation
Mass of a body varies with speed.... thats why we cant cross speed of light because at that point
mass of body becomes infinite......

3)Multiverse
The theory of multi universe also comes from Quantum theory

and the count goes on
QUOTE
Quantum theory is something which has no limit of surprise.

Today E=mc2 is considered as one of the fundamental laws of physics.
So it becomes very much important to to test the acurracy of the formula .For this the so many experiments are done
every year (last year in there was one in INDIA) ....... And let me tell you that this theory has always shown 100% correctness ...

I won't pretend to know my quantum physics well enough to completely understand all this. BUT!!! In any experimaental approach that causes such type of colllisions between atoms, isn't heat created? And if so, is the heat measured and factored in to balance both sides of the equation?

  3. To Have Mass And Not To Have Mass
    revisiting relativity (9)
Everything in this world is one of two types: those which have mass like the electron and those
which have no mass like the photon (light). Electrons have mass so they always travel less than the
speed of light and have kinetic energy approaching infinity as their speed approaches the speed of
light. Since velocity is relative this means that the energy of the electron also depends on how
fast you are moving, but because it has mass, if you have exactly the same velocity as the electron,
so that relative to you it is not moving at all, the electron has no kinetic energy....

contradictions in the theory of black holes? (3)
QUOTE("New scientist") At the beginning of March, George Chapline, a physicist at Lawrence
Livermore National Laboratory in California, and Nobel laureate Robert Laughlin of Stanford
University and their colleagues suggested at the 22nd Pacific Coast Gravity Meeting in Santa
Barbara, California, that the objects that till now have been thought of as black holes could in
fact be dead stars that form as a result of an obscure quantum phenomenon. These stars could explain
both dark energy and dark matter. Full article: http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?hbxmail....

Yes, the Big Bang is a theory of the universe's birth, but i notice that no one hardly mentions

  6. Most Difficult Relativity Puzzle
    contradicting observations (9)
Ok here is one of the most difficult puzzles about relativity. It regards those phenomena known as
time dilation and lorentz contraction. We will use a relative velocity of 99.5% of the speed of
light for which we know from previous posts give a lorentz contraction factor of gamma = 10. So the
idea is that if you (in a ship with clocks) are passing a planet (which we will assume has both
observers and clocks on it) with a relative velocity of 99.5% of the speed of light, that object
will be shorter in the direction of relative motion by a factor of 10 and the clocks o....

I have been having a lot of fun in the Religion and philosophy forum talking about the implications
