Hey guys, Im new here just thought i'd say hello!  Im planning on creating a text based internet game using php/sql.. im sure many people have asked for this over the months/years hehe. Though at first when learning php thankfully i learnt visual basic and html in school and the logic of php is not to bad. All was looking good on that front. Though i think i underestimated how big of a thing this is for one man to do alone. I cannot for life of me even begin to think where to start :S Plus many of the tutorials i learnt from whilst reading sites over the months never really hit the nail on the head when it came to using the code in a text based game. What does php get coded in ? Cos if its notepad, it doesnt work for me when i save it as .php and run it in IE to see if it works. Its like i need to buy a server before i can even test the prgramming language ? Is there not like a program to code php and run the code offline to test it works ? I've no idea how some guys can make an entire game by them selves from self-taught... its crazy. Any help is appreciated.

Making A Php Based Online Game
Would anybody like to help (3) I, along with several others, am making an online game called Galactic Rifts (at the moment). It is
a sci-fi text or graphical based game set in the future where you have to conquer other players and

Advice About Making A Text Based Game
(9) I got my Astahost account in hopes of making a multi-player, online, text-based game in real time.
What I need help with is the programming side of things, a little advice really. I talk to the
maker of a similar type game that I play, and he suggested I learn PHP with MySQL and ASP, and I
cant really remember if he said anything else. I have been playing around a little with PHP and
only dabbled with MySQL, but I know nothing of ASP except that it stands for Active Server Pages.

I Want To Create A PHP Text Based Web Game

learn PHP but I have no clue where to start. I have been playing this game online for over a year
now, and I have yet to find anything similar, so I want to take a jab at creating it. The game is
Kings of Chaos and in my mind it just rocks, but when you only get 1 turn every 30 minutes the time
between turns i get bored and have tried several other game that are similar but they in no way
