On Site Forum - know any good ones?

Im looking for a forum that I can host on my server! I tried Simple Machines Forum but I cant get it to work properly! When a new user wanted to join it asks for a confirmation code, with a graphic but the graphic didn't appear. I tried re-uploading it as well as replacing the graphics files and trying different prefixes. If anyone knows of another site that offers similar options please let me know! Thanks

I'm pretty sure you can turn off the image verification somewhere in the SMF administrator section. If you still have no luck you might want to try the other free forum software, phpBB.
It looks like version 3 is comming out soon which is a good improvement from the other versions, it is also highly modifiable with thousands of mods you can download and install.

Though if you are using astahost hosting you shouldn't really have a problem because they have the GD library installed.

Have you tried searching their forums and see if their is an answer to your problem? You would get your best response there, although a few members here might be using SMF.

I am assuming your using the new version of SMF if not when I installed (pre-installed script) image verification was not activated.

Yeah, I tried there forums and check for my problem. I even tried asking them on the forums but couldn't find the problem. I will try turning off the verification code.

Aequitas619, we have a section here for SimpleMachines Forum questions or you can even post them in the SimpleMachines Forum itself. They have good support and are pretty fast.

For the image verification, you can locate that option by going into Admin->Registration->Settings and you will see Disable the use of the visual verification on registration. Leave it unchecked if you want it to show up.

There are tons of different forums that can be hosted on your own server. You can start with this list...but to get more I'd suggest that you just Google what you want and look around to decide what's best for you. There's lots of discussion on which forums are useful for what, and obviously phpBB is not for everyone.

www.phpbb.com -- rather well known, but is known elsewhere as being insecure and difficult to mod
www.bbpress.org -- made by the creators of wordpress
beehiveforum.sourceforge.net -- has what you wanted regarding the image verification thing
www.minibb.net -- heard that it was optimized for Google, so if search is your thing, then go for it
www.punbb.org -- your regular forum, seems to be rather well known though
www.quicksilverforums.com -- lots of features, this one.
www.monkeyboards.sourceforge.net -- small filesize, just your regular discussion forum
www.usebb.net -- used mostly for medium sized sites
www.icebb.net -- yet another regular forum
www.sourceforge.net/projects/metabb -- seems to be created by those at phpBB
www.yabbforum.com -- same as above

Anyways, if you search Google for something like, "Free internet forums" then you might find yourself getting somewhere. Wikipedia has a nice article putting together all of these free forums into one category. =)

There is one called Vanila which is very simple and functional if you are using it in sites where you are sure that there will only be small amount of members this will suit you :
