You could use Internet Connection Sharing. What is the interface of the modem (USB, Ethernet, etc). Does the Apple have a network card, if so, which interface (LAN/WiFi aka. AirPort). If your modem is USB, you can use ICS. If your modem is Ethernet, you will need a new network card unless you're using WiFi. xxxx-jozh-xxxx Note: Are Windows and Mac friends?

You could either set up windows to share the internet, or a better option would be buying a router that'd share the internet between the two computers. You can get a 4 port routers for a low price. They also include a firewall which might come in handy.

You would need a router so that more than 1 computer can share the Internet connection. Once you get a router, simply plug both systems in. If you get wireless then just follow your manufacturer's guide to install that particular router. QUOTE Note: Are Windows and Mac friends? In many ways, they are. More like they are cousins with Linux. FreeBSD is its older brother or sister. xboxrulz

He is talking about Broadband so I assume his modem has an in-built router. I have never seen one that does not have it. Most I have seen use both USB and Ethernet, so if you are lucky and this is the case, simply plug Ethernet to the Mac (it should work right away with no changes) and USB to Windows (you will probably need drivers that come with the modem/router). And that's all, nothing more, it'll all work without the need for interference from the likes of ICS etc.

I know that you probably thought of this already, but why not just put a wireless router and share your connection like that? Or can you get a port switch and share your connection that way?

Wireless router would be expensive, I already have a modem/router but it's not wireless for net.

(12) Hello, I am having some trouble setting up Internet Connection Sharing. Here is my setup. My
internet is through a neighbor who is sharing there internet with me wirelessly, so I don't have
any type of broadband modem, just a wireless card on my desktop PC. I have a linksys WRT54G router
connected to the desktop PC and tried following the guidelines for home networking, and works fine,
but no internet connection now. When I unhook my router then my internet connection comes back.

Remote Desktop Connection Question
(10) Is there some way that I can use remote desktop without it locking the user's screen? As if
i'm trying to troubleshoot a problem over the network i want them to be able to see what i'm
doing to their machine so they can learn, but I can't figure out how to do it. I don't need
it to have dual keyboard and mouse input, I just need the monitor on their end to be enabled as well
as mine. Possibly a third-party program is available for this?....
How Do I Create Static Routes In Windows Xp?
(11) Here's my setup: My PC connects to my Internet facing wireless router via a USB-pluggable
wireless NIC, the IP address of which is 192.168.1.2 (netmask 255.255.255.0). The IP address of my
router's LAN port is 192.168.1.1. The NIC which is embedded in the motherboard has remained
disabled so far. Everything works OK, but I recently got a hold of a crossover cable, and I started
using it to connect a laptop to my PC. So I enabled the embedded NIC on the PC and gave it an IP
address of 192.168.2.2 (netmask 255.255.255.0, default gateway 192.168.2.2). The laptop&....
Broadband Modem Sharing
Accessing Internet from 2 computers (11) I like to share our broadband modem and access Internet from the second computer. The 2 computers
are not connected to each other. I am considering setting up a network of these 2 computers using a
wireless access point and 2 wireless network cards. I assume the access point and the braodband
modem will be attached to one of the computers and the other computer will be able to access
Internet through the access point. Is there any other way of sharing the modem eg. using adapters/
extensions, like sharing the telephone line? ....
Cable Internet Connection Requires Aol To Go Online?
(17) Just took a look at one of my user's computer and found a very strange problem. For some odd
reason, he must sign into AOL in order to use his internet. I would understand if this is required
if he is using AOL as his main connection, but he is using a dedicated cable service line. The same
thing is happening to his other computer (requires him to sign onto AOL first before he can
connect). After playing around with it for a while, Internet Explorer connected without
AOHell's assistance. I made sure AOL was completely signed off and tried a few more websites and....

(17) I have 3 computers that are all connected wirelessly and are able to share files. All have files and
printer sharing enabled also. I have my laptop here that's connected to a USB printer. I shared
the printer and just called it Printer. I tried to connect to this printer from one of the other
computers and added it via Network->Server option. I typed in \\laptopsComputername\Printer and it
automatically changed the shared name to the actual printer name I have on my laptop. I didn't

What Replaces .netrc When Using Windows Xp ?
In Unix and in Linux, there is a network configuration file named .net (4) When I am on a Unix system or on a Linux system, I use a configuration file named ".netrc", which
stores my most used ftp settings. Is there an equivalent for ftp under Windows XP ? I tried
testing/guessing, I failed, it's not net.rc nor .netrc. It's not horribly necessary, but I

Layered Networking
barring a networked computer from using a shared connection (6) Since I haven't had any luck with my internet connection sharing problem which i posted
previously, due to the terrible quality of service here, i've decided a second connection may be
the answer. I won't give up the cable because i also have 2 phone lines on it, plus cable tv,
but I will get a 256K DSL connection in addition to my 128K cable. The benefits of this will be that
it's double, plus i'll get the full 256K connection for myself without having to share it
with other users. (I explained previously about the 10to1 ratio used here in pakistan)....
Cable Sharing Problem
..unequal bandwidth (4) I have a 128k connection that is shared between 6 computers. one computer connects directly to the
internet and the others connect through this shared connection. Now I know that already, this is not
a good idea, because 128k split over so many will really slow it down, but until I can get a second
line there's really no way around it. And I know that the host computer will take the lion's
share of the bandwidth. My question is: How can I make sure that the remaining speed is divided
equally between the other computers? Right now one or two other computers will ....

How To Connect Computers In A Wi-fi Network
