| | Ok, for testing my knowledge, I got a free domain "floppydrives.cjb.net" and free DNS service at ZoneEdit.com. However, when you visit "floppydrives.cjb.net" you're taken to the document root of "/var/www/html" instead of where I'd like it to go: "/home/user/public_html"
I think this is more of a web issue/server issue, so I apologize if you feel that this is in the wrong forum. If it is, could a mod move it to where they feel it should go? Thanks!

This is your home server right ?? And the only page you're hosting is your own?? A simple tweak would be to place a blank index file in your /var/www/html with a single line of JavaScript Redirection code pointing to the index file in your /home/nigthfox This is the quick and dirty way out.. I understand what you want - but it's gotta do something with your local DNS too.. that's what redirects requests to specific accounts on the same server. Let me ask around and if I get a satisfactory reply from any of my associates, I'll post back rightaway.

Yep! Hey, since it is MY server, I can use all the disk space and bandwidth in the world!! QUOTE A simple tweak would be to place a blank index file in your /var/www/html with a single line of JavaScript Redirection code pointing to the index file in your /home/nigthfox This is the quick and dirty way out.. Actually an easier way is setting document root to /home/nightfox except then I can't really have multiple sites... Yep, I figured that... mmmm... DNS.... QUOTE Let me ask around and if I get a satisfactory reply from any of my associates, I'll post back rightaway.

True, but some people don't have JavaScript enabled, so that might be a problem. You can also redirect by entering this in the <head> part of the code: <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0; WANTED URL">

This might be a dum question but does cjb.net domains work with DNS? So can you alter the name servers for the domain? See I thought they were just redirects. About your actual question, I don't think you should resort to redirects, it should be quite easy to configure the right www root for the web server.

Yep: Login > Account Settings > Very bottom you can enter: -IP -Name Server 1 -Name Server 2 (they just added support for a secondary name server not to long ago) -IPv6 -Mail Server -Canonical Name They used to have all of that available when you signed up, but now they've sorta "hidden" it away. But I use a CJB.net domain here on my Astahost hosting account and it works just as well as a .com. Of course, it's blocked at school because it's a cjb.net domain, but it is still great! [N]F

Server Slow On LAN, Fast On The Internet

Hey, Here's a weird problem I've encountered. On my test server running CentOS and Apache2
w/ the Apache2 Manual installed and accessible from the web, everything seems fine. So I access it
via my home network on which the server is located and the manual loads like I'm on a 56K
connection. To give you an idea of the speed, it's just a tweak faster than using MySpace during
peak hours. MySpace is still slower than my server though. But today at school, I try it and the
thing loads like it was on an OC-93 fiber line at a data center! AND- if I try to FTP...

Most Home internet users have dynamic IP address' Meaning they may change every time you reboot

Maybe you want to run a public webserver from home ? getting a non computer savvy fiend to remember

Backup DNS For Domain
- (4)
Hey, I'm not sure the technical term, but you know how domains have primary and secondary name
servers? Well, I know that when you go to a domain, it queries NS1.ASTAHOST.COM (for example if you
were hosted here) and if NS1 is down, it goes to NS2. Well, what I have a web server running on my
network and what I'd like to do is have it setup with a "Site Temporarily Down" message and then
if the server goes down for example.com, NS1 & NS2 also go down, have it redirect to a third DNS
server to redirect it to the server on my network with the "Site Down" message....

page and decided, what the heck might as well try it. Since I'm restricted to two services

remote management so I can be at school or on the road and can check the status of my network or
remotely do something to the router without having to get the IP since Alltel DSL is dynamic which
is a real pain but since I can go days, I usually have the same IP for awhile unless the net...
