| | How can I convert an avi file encoded with RM codecs (real media) to a DivX avi file ?
I would like to be able to read it on a stand-alone avi reader.
Virtualdub says "cannot determine file type" and Imtoo rm converter simply freezes, using no cpu and no disk. |

you can use ffmpeg to try to decode the thing to MPEG. xboxrulz

sigh ! winavi also cannot open the original rm encoded avi file.

Try Quicktime Pro from Apple (yes there is a PC version). Although, RM formats are very hard to work with. One of the reasons why I avoid them unless it's a final output and a client wants wmv, mov, and rm files. That being said, the rmvb file for torrent downloads of tv shows, great. a 60 minute show in a 60MB file is great. Especially when you just want to see the episode you missed and not wanting to burn it to a DVD.

Thanks, Folks ! Amigo Easy Video converter did the job. Strangely, the last version failed, but older versions (5.01) worked perfectly. Yordan

Windows Movie Maker Not Compatible With FFDShow?
(1) I just update ffdshow and xvid codec a few days ago. And I found that Windows Movie Maker will be
closed automatically when I edit WMV file with it. it did not show any error messages. But it
works fine after I uninstalled those codec. what's the problem with ffdshow and xvid?? are
they not compatible with Windows Movie Maker??....
