Probably Power Settings mischief. Go to control panel -> Power Options and set 'Turn off monitor', 'Turn off harddisk', 'System standby' to NEVER. This should fix your probs

Did you use a Download Manager? If you use it, you should be able to use it without any problem! I suggest FreeDownloadManager as a free download manager. You can get it Here

I found firefox to be rather unreliable when downloading large files. especially the "resume" feature, i have yet to fully download a file after resuming. --the same thing with IE, of course. then with the constant power cuts around here, and me not having a backup UPS, I find it convenient to use a download manager that will resume anywhere it gets cut off.

My guess is that he uses windowsXP and he means that after a while, the pc goes to the 'switch user-log-in screen'. And I don't think he uses IE, because: "most of the times" + "resume" means that he sometimes CAN resume, wich IE doesn't support. Try disableing (password for) you screensaver, that probably why he goes to the user view.

yeah... definitely try a downloading manager to save the file for you... but if you really want to fix that problem, i would say you have your sleep mode on.... go into display properties and look into the power management tab and turn off sleep mode... When you leave your computer too long, the computer is timed to hibernate after a certain amount of time (depending on the windows default settings)... Once you turn that off, the computer will stay active and stay to download your files... if not, itll just shut the whole computer down to sleep... Chin chin...

Normally when you put your computer into sleep mode or hibernate mode it powers down the CPU, and you need your CPU to process incoming data while you are downloading, so while what everybody else was saying here about setting your computer to stay awake on its own is true, we should also mention that you should not manually put it into sleep or hibernate mode while you are downloading anything because all open TCP connections will be timed out.

Hi I just re installed windows on my computer (I know i can hear people saying "Why Windows", but i

find strange is that when i have locked the computer (e.g switch user) and it is sitting on the

First off, I would like to say thanks for taking the time to read my thread... Er then I won't

around this in a couple of ways if I have to... But I was just curious to see if anyone knew how to
fix it a better way? My "solutions" to fix it are: 1) If I hit ALT+TAB at the s...

Computer Ups & Voltage Regulator Problems
- I can't get it to work (3)
I have a 2.8 Dual core machine with a 17 inch monitor, 2 hard drives, a dvd burner, and a 350w power
supply. I have an 800w rated UPS, which according to the paper is supposed to give me around 8
minutes of power during a blackout. This is more of an issue than for most people, as here we have
an average of 8 power cuts a day during the 8 or 9 months of summer weather. The problem is that my
UPS doesn't really help any, because in a power cut it will go off as well for a second, and
then it comes back to life, but in that second my computer has gone off, and even tho...

Problems With Nero

I have a problem when trying to burn audio cd's with Nero. When I reach the place where it asks
me to "add" what I want to burn, it doubles the size of what I am burning. In other words if what I
am burning is 55 minutes, when I add it to Nero it automatically becomes 110 If it was 45 minutes it
automatically becomes 90 minutes. Of course then the file is too large to burn as it exceeds the
capacity of the disk. Has anyone had this problem before???...

was too much power being drawn from the mb and that seemed to help for a while. ...

take power from the USB port I don't know if I should but the power adaptor or not. If anyone
