Hello everyone , Here in this post I will show you how to hide your private files and folders If you have some private files and want to prevent others from seeing them you can follow these steps to hide these private files First Step Create New Folder any where and rename it hold Alt key and press 255 Now you will notice the folder has no name Second Step Now right click this folder and select Properties then Customise then change icon and select invisiable icon for this folder you will find 4 empty area icons all are fine Third Step Now move all your private files to a Folder and Put this Folder in the invisiable folder you just created . That's right folder inside the invisiable Folder .. this way windows will not catch thumbnail and show it in Thumbnail Preview Forth Step Right click your folder again and mark Hidden For more secured folder you can choose Do not show hidden files from Tools -- > folder Options --- > View ____________________________________ Another way For text files like word spreadsheet excel or just text use this way rename your file like yourfile.txt to yourfile.zip Now whenever any one click this file or even rightclick and select extract command he will get an error message from winzip - or any other software you use for dealing with zip files - You can apply the first way from step one to step four on this fake zip file too to make sure it will not be even noticed Thank You

This is a good method, im a System administrator, so am always having to look out for security holes and hackers Also Encripting the files inside the folder is a useful technique maybe Encripting the folder itself, and taking away permissions to it

AFAIK any security system can be broken if one really needs to get your files. Your system in particular does not guarantee any security if a person knows where to look, or stumbles onto the data by accident. Your measures assume that the person trying to open the files does not know how to handle them, and as history of digital security has shown, any "security-through-obscurity" concept (employed by many companies unfortunately) is bound to fail sooner or later. Encrypting sensitive information with a good 10+ signs alpha-numerical password and storing them away on a tiny pendrive you're always carrying with yourself is never a bad idea, and is much more effective than it seems. With prices of flash memories being so low these days and linux micro-distributions available (Puppy-linux for example), you can have a fully-functional OS, with all your sensitive files, never leaving your pocket.

The best way to hide your private files is to not keep them on machines that aren't yours. If you have administrator level access to your machine, install TrueCrypt or FreeOTFE. These free programs install a driver that allows you to create a virtual "drive" that is mapped to a file on the hard disk, or a partition if you want. Since it happens in kernel space, programs don't care that they files are actually encrypted on the disk; they're decrypted by the virtual disk driver on a chunk-by-chunk basis as the bytes are requested by the program using the encrypted files. For instance, I have a 1GB TrueCrypt container on my work machine that I keep my firefox and gaim profiles in. I don't need my sysadmin seeing what sites I go to and who I chat with online. If you don't, just keep your private files on a USB key in your pocket.

That's a great way to do this that I had never thought of. As ethergeek said, because USB sticks are so readily available, they are another great option. Cheap and powerful.

Hello everyone , I agree with you Jeigh and yes I was thinking of a way to hide some data from brother sister father mother some people like that even if a friend drop by and use your computer while you are in the other room , it is not all porn but some more files too would be better to be hidden from these eyes , think of messenger logs conversation with some people , some thoughts you wish to keep away from them , your inetrenet explorer favorite sites ( you can export them to a file and hide it there using htis way ) , although there are lots of serious ways to encrypt important files but lets just keep it for very very important ones because these ways may take some time to decrypt again and let you use your files again ( some encypted files take about an hour in the complecated CIA/FPI type of encryptions ) . But using alt way is very simple everyone can do it and still your files are accessable in a mouse click , you do not need to use programs or remember complecated passwords to decrypt or to wait for the decryption process to finish handling your encypted files to use them . The flash memory stick is a very good idea too thank you

I feel I should clarify that I didn't mean to imply hazemmostafa or anyone else would necessarily be trying to hide porn, it was just the first thing that popped into my head haha.

I understand your comment XD And I likely would have made a very similar one myself. But... For something small like that... I usually just store my files deep down in the C: drive and renamed all to numbers or things that are hard to search for. Since... If someone was really going to use the search function on a computer to find porn or other things that I don't want them to see, they likely wouldn't think to search for things such as "24" or "3". Although, every one of you now knows where to find it. Which is fine, I don't even know why I hide my files, I'm the only one to ever touch this computer. It's pretty much completely private as it is. I'm gonna be sure to remember the invisible icon trick though, just because I can see it definitely coming in handy sometime if I'm on another computer and need to hide something I'm a bit concerned though... If you had open the window/desktop that the invisible folder was in, even without a name, wouldn't... Say... Ctrl+A highlight it?

Another trick I like to use is adjusting the Sharing Options. Of course this is only if you have your own account on the computer.

Replying to mvs.EnReplying to mvs.En Hiding items as numbers doesn't work well, for fun when I am on others computers or in public areas and people don't know how to protect their data properly I hunt... Lol for what? anything interesting. The easiest way to find videos (porn) on peoples computers is to use software that tells you where you are using most of your space (on the mac I use diskInventory X)... Porn and other videos pop up as big blocks of data even if the are named numbers or in an "invisible" folder... Those only work on the computer illiterate... Lol, you should see the things I have found!

Also you may use TrueCrypt. TrueCrypt formats a file in a special way and mounts it, making it visible as a new hard drive (g: drive for instance). The disk cannot be mounted without giving your password, and if the password is "somethingverycomplicatedeven4meor4you", almost nobody can crack this password in a reasonable time. Moreover, TrueCrypt has a portable version, so you may put the portable version as well as the file on your flashisk, you mount your flashdisk file using your flashdisk portable version of TrueCrypt, and when you unmount it nothing remains on the PC. And if somebody steals your flashdisk key, he will be unable to use the file. Hope this helped Yordan

Problem With Xammp And Deleting Temp Files

Find Out A Files Original File Type
(6) Hi, is there any way to find out a file's original file type/extension? My friend gave me this
song from a Chinese series and I had to play around with the extensions until I got it working (made
it .wmv). He doesn't even know the original format, but I'm guessing he's using wmv to
use it also. I tried naming it to .mp3 and .wma to see if those work...both failed. I like to keep
all my audio files as mp3 files. Was going to look for a program to convert it to mp3, but have a
question. I highly doubt this file was originally a .wmv file since it's jus....
