Thanks very much for the link bash18! I tell you, there aren't many popup blockers that are small but powerful and blocks all types ads before they are loaded. Nice! And this does boost your browsing speed. This is one of the reasons why I want one.


That's one of the reasons why I switched to Mozilla Firefox. They have a built in pop up blocked which is really good. I think that Internet Explorer is trying to do this as well...

Well, if you want a really good thing to use, and don't want most of the ads, banners, popups and other stuff which might ruin your day, I am offering to use privoxy. You'll need time to configure and stuff, but it is worth it, you can know more about it here:

I use it myself and it is really great it is more than an popup blocker, read through their homepage and what is best - it is free.

If you have a antivirus such as Norton, you can use it's popup blocker or if you are using windows Xp you can download the "ServicePack" 2 freely, so Internet Explorer can automaticly block the popups.And it will be extra secure conputer for you.

Hey,

Thanks for providing pop-up blocker programs but I do have a question... With these programs, since they block pop-ups, does that mean that, let's say for instance, I want to download something off of the internet and in order to do that, a pop-up window must open and pop-up so that I can choose the destination of where I want to save that download. Will any of these programs provided block those kind of pop-ups too? And what about other pop-ups that inform us that we are entering a secure site or that we are leaving a secure site and etc. Will these be blocked as well? And though not really that significant, what about those pop-ups on people's websites that just pop-up to say, "Thank you for visiting my site!" or something along those lines. Same question, will these be blocked too? Or are the ONLY pop-ups these programs will block are those annoying ads and banners?

I'm sorry for bugging you guys with these questions (maybe I was becoming annoying by asking them... -_-;; ) but I kinda want to make sure that the pop-ups that aren't ads and banners will still pop-up even after I download any of the programs provided. Thank you very much in advance for any help provided.

On a lot of sites, when you try to download, you cannot, instad you have a message saying "sorry, you must answer yes". And if you want to download your thing you must de-activate your firewall, your pop-up blocker, your antivirus... and you are really exposed to danger.

I use Mozilla Firefox, which has a built in pop-up blocker. In IE I have Google toolbar installed, which also has a pop-up blocker. It's good enough for me

Popups don't seem to bother me often anymore, be it in firefox (obviously) or IE6 on my 'rents computer when I visit them. Both have pretty decent popup blockers. There is one site I visit sometimes that managed to get a popup past firefox, but it's rare as that's the only one I know of that I've had a popup get by in FF.

The IE6 popup blocker lets a few more through (for me at least) but it's still really decent. I'd rather just let those handle everything if they can rather then install more stuff to bloat up the systems. I used to use a program called "free surfer mk 2" but the newer versions are kinda annoying to me so I just upgraded my rents IE (well, got them sp2) and voila, no more issues.

Now luckily most popup blockers, be they built in or external, allow you to set certain sites to let popups through. So if you DO need to download something that the killer kills the dialogue box, just set that site as 'allowed'. Alternatively, usually you can just click a notice icon or bar that says a popup was blocked and choose to 'temporarily allow popups from BLAH.com" and then refresh and the popup survives.

Really popups haven't been an issue for me for years... ever since I went to Firefox hehe. But once I realized that firefox could block them I walled my 'rents comp too with popup blockers. As long as they keep up with the ad creators (I remember when they figured out most popup blockers didn't stop popunders for awhile...*shudders*) we'll be fine.

How do you configure firefox in order to block popu's ? My firefox and my ZonAlarm let everything go through.
