| | Is there anyway to transfer data from a standard PC slave drive to a laptops hardrive without having the PC HDD installed in a PC? I realise this is a somewhat silly question as the HDD would need to be powered somehow. I just dont want to have to track down a PC just so I can grab a few Gigs of data off of it. |

usually you have to connect both of the computers while they are running and have to use a program to tranfer a hd to another computer, if you are just looking to get somethings off of your hd im sure you could just hook it up to a friends comp and then burn it onto a disk.

Well I am tryong to avoid tearing open someones pc then configuring it for a second hard drive.

1. Network transfer, get a basic cat-5 cable and connect the 2 computers over either a crossover hub or just directlyl. and 2. (the eaiser way) find a internal-external harddrive converter "case" (you hook your hd up to it and its a little case that is usually firewire and comes with usb cabels (dosen't really lead to "Tearing everything up", just unhooking 2 cabels, un mounting the drive, and retreve the information, then re-mount re connect, and vouala, your done.)

Network transfer is impossible as I have just a hard drive and a laptop. NO PC. Like I said, all I want is to be able to get data off of this hard drive vithout having to find someone willing to let me put it in there pc. The second option I may try as I could then just keep the hdd as a usb hdd.

You'd need some kind of IDE > USB adapter to do that.

Data Recovery
what should i use? (15) I sent a computer in for a motherboard replacement. I could have done it myself, but i figured why
not save some time. The computer came back from the shop with not only the motherboard replaced, but

Frustrating Problem With XP On Laptop
(20) I have my Dualcore AMD Acer laptop, 5102Wlmi, with a 120GB hd, 2 GB ram, etc. I had a friend buy it
in the states and bring it over just 2 months ago. All of a sudden, the other day when i went to
turn it on, it would bring up the xp boot screen, and then just hang there. I tried a different hard
drive. no luck. I tired installing XP, but after booting from cd and loading all the drivers, right
after the FAT and NTFS drivers, it says "Setup is loading Windows" and then it hangs there. I've
left it overnight and in the morning it's still in the same place. I can&#....
Just Got A New Laptop....
a couple questions (13) I bought an Acer Aspire 5601WLMI for $850 after rebates. It has an AMD Turion 64 X2 ML-50 processor,
2 GB DDR2 ram, 120GB hard drive, 15.4 in brightview widescreen, etc. I did alot of online research
before i bought it, as I don't like Acers, and would have gone for a Compaq or Dell had i had
more time. But it seemed to get pretty high reviews, and on notebookreview.com it was in the top 5.
But has anyone here had any experience with one of them, and can shed more light on whether i made
myself a deal or a lemon? Also, say i was to try out Linux on it, would i run i....
New Laptop - Dell, Bad
laptop, dell, bad (3) well my current dell laptop is a inspiron 1000 which is complete crap. it's been terrible almost
a month after i got it for christmas...i'd say a year and a half ago. It was low on memory two
months later! i got more upgraded and it was still crap. recently the screen has been blacking out
while the computer remains active and continues to do it every time i get past the loading screen
but instead of pouring more money into my sad little laptop I've decided to spring for a new

Laptop Battery Out
Laptop's Battery not Charging (28) I left my laptop on, because I took my other computer to the technician for a check-up (some of you
might remember what happened to that computer) and so the battery of the laptop was not being
charged, so the battery was dead, because I didn't put on the adapter. Now, a whole new problem
