I have used both programs in the past (and I build pcs) and hands down it goes to Kaspersky. Norton is a great product but even after running updates and a full scan, when I installed Kaspersky Internet Suite it still found problems. My suggestion would be one of two things, but this depends on what you use your pc for, how much memory you have and your procesor speed (if you want to be technical)
Either:
A) (At least 3GB memory) Combine Kaspersky Internet Suite w/ CA AntiVirus, Counterspy, Spybot and Yahoo Antispy(which happens to be Norton, go figure!)
OR
B) (Anything less than 3 GB) Use CA EZ Armor with AVG and at least to of the antispy programs mentioned in "a".
"Note= I say at least 3 GB to run without really noticing any lag... any less you will notice it slightly during some apps)
Free programs are good but usually the drawback to them is that they are play the role of the sole surviving hero with no sidekick....They arent compatible with too many other programs or platforms or they were constructed (probably unintentionally)for certain specifications the average person either will not have access to, afford, understand or are simply unique(home mods). With constant new threats you need more than one set of "locks and alarms" on your system and I must admit although my option "A" is a bit of a memory mogul, the end result is a 98.5% coverage (nothing is foolproof) I found that combo to be an awesome deterrent for attacks option" B" works just as well only the real difference is that you have to have a little patience and some time on your hands to work out the kinks in between programs, although you probably could just google up most of your inquiries.
Hope I helped ....

Also I forgot to mention in my other post Kaspersky actually is cheaper than Norton, easier to use and has more features so you don't have to continuously configure it. It practically teaches itself what to look for, updates more frequently and is overall just superior. What most folks don't realize is that a majority ot of viruses, spyware/adware and other pests come from overseas (Russia and China mainly) Kaspersky Internet Security Suite(if you cant tell by the name) is a Russian Program the has anti-virus,anti-malware, anti-hack, anti-spam all in one for about the same price as Norton, but......well lets just say you would end up paying more for these other features javascript:showTab('ComparisonChart') as well as backup to cover what norton missed.(Moral is: more is not necessarily better in this case) for one year of service

In my opinion anything is always better then Norton / Symantec. Especially Norton Internet Security really sucks.

I don't have much money to buy antivirus license, so I'm using AVG now.

I've tried 30 days trials from kaspersky and I satisfy with it, but I still can't buy it tongue.gif

The only problem with kaspersky is : the default setting is too secure. I hate popups or some text coming up from systray.

You can forget about Norton, a friend of mine had a virus on her pc with Norton installed, she got one of Norton's agents to check her computer and even he couldn't delete the virus, I found this amusing, I went to her house, uninstall-ed Norton, used the kaspersky 30 trial version, it detected 4 viruses trojan. Banker a very dangerous trojan and kaspersky just deleted it, no questions asked, so there you go kaspersky wins.

It is expensive though, if you want to take my recommendation get kaspersky antivirus or the internet security version with firewall included,

Do you use internet explorer?

If yes ----- FORGET IT

No matter how many anti virus or spyware detectors you have you will always find your pc full of spyware eventually,

Use FIREFOX instead of internet explorer, everyone I know that has antivirus, firewalls and anti-spyware, they always end up getting spyware on their pc simply because of internet explorer,

Ever since I started using firefox I never found any spyware on my system,

Well...I used to have Norton installed on my PC but I wud disagree with Abhiram that Norton doesn't require your RAM as much as kaspersky do.My computer was used to be slower when I used Norton but now I use Kaspersky and I think its worlds best.Even the real time does not slow your pc. and its very easy to use. but you have to update it after every 2 days.and it worksss greattttt... I wud go with Kaspersky

I personally use nod32 2.7 on both my computers. I set it up to only scan internet traffic and if i download a file once in a while i will scan it manually. That way i don't notice the any speed difference at all. Its like have not av at all, and just as secure for me... problem is though if other people use your computer and nod32 is not the best detector of all. avg and kaspersky are good but i vote for avg because its free

Internet Explorer is the single most deadly tool to get you a virus. And I recommend Mozilla Firefox to everyone around me. I just really don't understand though why so many people are so stubborn and reluctant to use Firefox -- Its a real life saver.
I would almost go to the point of saying that switching to Mozilla is equivalent, maybe even better than using Internet Explorer paired with an antivirus...

Plus other than its efficiency with stopping undesirable files entering your computer, its an absolutely superb browser with so many great functions, many which Microsoft copied off (such as the multi-tabbing which Mozilla were the first to implement).

And ya obviously virus-sense is something you just develop over time: sometimes you can just tell that something looks fishy.

So 2 words of advice to stop viruses:

Firefox + don't do anything foolishly stupid

With that you should be just fine, without any antivirus whatsoever.

Hope this was helpful

I recently upgraded my Norton from 2005 to 2006, didnt have much of a trouble there, but after the
first reboot, my PC went hell slow. I know there had been problems of NAV acting a little weird at
startup and slowing down startup time, but 2005 used to start up faster and better than the previous
version. 2006 takes atleast a minute or so to start up now. I am not the tweaking guy so i settle
