Hello ppl .. First of .. thankx to astahost for providing this service to me ... really appriciate this and would do my best to keeep up with the standards .. Now for the list of problems .. lol Well i got my invitation to the process page wherein i filled uot the required fields and submitted .. it said 10-15 mins .. but the page was stuck there for 45 mins and m on dsl .. so well thats weird .. maybe there was a problem fom my side with the ISP .. the emirates is experiencing problems with international broken links .. argg newayz .. i closed the page ... went back .. filled in everything again .. and after i submitted .. it showed me an error saying that my name was already registered and it was successful .. Well .. not bothered much .. i went and signed in the cpanel and i got accepted in ... i saw the controls .. changed my email ... but now therez one thing thats not clear here .. Disk usage 23.95 / 20.00 MB SQL Disk usage 0.00 MB Disk space available -3.95 MB ok .. now i really am confused cause i havent used anything and its a new account so y is it showing me 23.95 / 20.00 MB ?? even the SQL db shows the same problem .. plz do advice me on this .. Secondly tho i know this takes time but i rather just ask .. under the member names i have noticed the group change like .. members .. hosted .. etc .. mine still is a member and the icon above it hasent changed to hosted .. is this related to the half registration attempt i did ? .. cause it relly wasent my fault .. any query to the server would practically take 5 mins max .. but mine was steady for 45 mins .. Awaiting ur replies and help .. Thankx in advance Dhanesh .. P.S. I contacted an admin and then i posted this so i get feedback from both areas soon .. thankx

Hi! As far as I know the disk usage is not always shown correctly. Often when you change your files the disk usage remains unchanged. I think there's no need to worry about this, your ftp-client will tell you the truth about your real disk usage. GreetingZ

OK, here is the deal. The cPanel has a minor little issue about disk space and disk usage. here is an explanation of the issue. The disk usage is only check by the cPanel once every 24 to 48 hours. This is designed to reduce the load placed on the servers as this update does require some resources and there are a lot of accounts to check. The disk usage is not calculated in real time or near real time because if it were the server would be too busy to serve web pages. Additionally, the disk usage includes all of your email storage, file storage, and database storage among a few other things. When your account is created, a webpage is already installed on the account that simply shows the AstaHost home page. All of the files for this page are included in your account and that takes up room. This is used to provide some content in the event that the user never actually uses the account. Happens sometimes. The otherwise unused space provides a link back the AstaHost. The files used for the AstaHost homepage are rather large and would account for much of your disk usage. Because the script installer uses the cPanel disk usage data and not the actual disk usage, it will not install scripts that will exceed the maximum disk usage amount even if there is in reality enough room. As a result, Mambo can not be installed via Fantastico until your disk usage plus the Mambo disk space needed is less than you maximum disk storage capacity. The first thing you should do is remove any of the web files that you no longer need from the public_html folder. Do not delete the folder itself and do not delete the www folder or any of its contents. most of the default folders should be left alone but everything inside of the default public_html folder can be discarded if desired as long as the folder is left in place. There may be a few new account creation temporary files left behind that are also using space. In the end, you may just need to wait a day or two to get the disk usage thing worked out but ultimately, you should probably try to get your 30 credits and upgrade to the standard hosting account where disk usage should be less of an issue for you. As far as your member type not being displayed as Hosted, that may also take a day to work its way out. Hope this helps. vujsa

You can delete all else EXCEPT: public_html tmp mail public_ftp and any file or folder that begins with dot "." Rest are all unimportant.. even files/folders under public_html.. can wipe all clean

Thankx Dhanesh No pest here Ask any questions you have since that's what this board is for. Regarding your upgrade request, do you have the normal (10 credit) account yet? I'm thinking that, that may be your problem. If not, then I'm not sure what's wrong there. I just went to Upgrade Request and see the New Topic button there. If you don't have the regular 10 credit package yet, then you should request for it here. My suggestion is to wait until you have 30 credits and get that bigger package - that is, if you use that much space.

Nope.. the problem is that you haven't been placed in the HOSTED group - no wonder you are unable to post in the upgrade section. Anyways, that's fixed. Shouldn't be a problem anymore

You will need atleast 4 credits to UN-SUSPENDED your hosting Account. Account is UN-suspended only when a user has more than 3 hosting credits. You get credits by making forum posts. After you make the required posts, your hosting account will be active automatically within a few hours. i have been regular and posting well .. but y is it negative ? .. and suddenly its reduced from 44.44 .. to this ? .. i was thinkin to upgrade .. but now ?? .. plz help me .. i am all confused here now .. Ok, I'm not exactly sure what it is I'm doing wrong. I went to the 'index manager' and to the 'public_html' folder. I clicked on / which was the 'current folder' then checked 'no indexes'. When I went to my webpage, I got this error message: You don't have permission to access / on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Apache/1.3.34 Server at www.ftv.astahost.com Port 80 Is it something in my scripting that may have caused an error, or is it something I am doing wrong in the CPanel? Does anyone know?

QUOTE(lonebyrd @ Apr 9 2006, 06:00 AM) What I ment by that was, I added some did some work in notepad: a small title and background effect, and uploaded to a folder I created in Cpanel. I did get to delete those files in the public_html folder, but what I was wonder was if when I did that, would I be able to see MY title and background effect page that I uploaded. I must be doing something wrong, because now when I go to my webpage, all I get is a list of directories, starting with the parent directory then some things that start with vti. I don't know what to do.
Alright then, let's take this in order ... First of all, the public_html is the folder where you store anything and everything that you need for your Website. All the html, css, and the like. If you deleted it, no worries, just create it again, and make sure it's in lowercase. So if you deleted, all its contents will be gone. And when you try to use your Internet Browser (Internet Explorer, FireFox, etc.), it won't find anything there. The reason you're seeing the list of directories is that you have the Indexing enabled on that folder. Just log into your cPanel, and look for Index Manager... It's easy to understand what it is from the description, but if you're having trouble, just come back here again . Now, to make sure that neither you nor anyone else can see the directories you have, just disable the indexing service by choosing "no indexing" on the folders you want. As for the vti files and folders, these are installed with the FrontPage extensions. I suppose you chose to install it. They're only important if you're going to use FrontPage. Hope that helped .

QUOTE(lonebyrd @ Apr 9 2006, 04:43 AM) I have a question about the public_html folder. I can't view any of the files in the folder. It just gives me the option to delete the folder and all files, rename it, change permissions, move, and copy. How do I view it to remove the files? And once I remove these files, will I be able to see what I've done to my webpage?
... I know what you mean, lonebyrd. I fell into the same trap myself. Ok, here's what you do... To the left of the public_html folder, or any other folder in the File Manager, you'll find a folder icon, right? Whenever you want to see options related to the whole folder, click on the name of the folder. But when you want to access the contents of that folder, you have to press the icon to its left. Try it and let us know . And as for that last question about the removal of files and seeing a change to your Webpage... I'm not following. Could you explain that?
