Laptop Os (winxp) Boot Problems - Refusing to boot from HDD and CD-Drive

I have a Problem with my new Computer - It doesn´t boot. When i press the powerbutton its starting
but not going on. the screen stays black. What can that be?...

under win 2000, when you press CTRL+ALT+DEL, a dialog pops up with a lock option. This is very
useful when you print then collect some document and the printer is far from you. But in winxp,
after CTRL+ALT+DEL is pressed, the task manager is come up, but a dialog with lock option. How can
I get that dialog back in winxp??...

Ok .. Heres a weird one. I have a laptop and no floppy drive, I want to boot up to command prompt so
i can manually use the format command (Vista RC1 would keep your old windows files as "windows.old"

Hi, since a while i got two problems related with images files in my Windows 2000 machine, both are
very closely related because them happen with Windows Explorer and with Internet Explorer 6. The
problems are: Windows Explorer Thumbnails Preview : The problem with this option of the View menu

I just got a hold of Vista from my friend. He downloaded it from the Microsoft site and burned it on
a DVD for me. Since I just installed VMware recently, I wanted to give Vista a try. So far it's
only been giving me headaches. I've been getting all kinds of errors...most likely related to
the amount of disk space I allocated for the install or the memory assigned. Well, I gave it all I
got today. I set VMware to give it 15GB of hard drive space and 512MB of memory. It seems to work.

Hi, When I am using my laptop on battery power (not plugged in) the screen saver loads properly and
works fine at the time specified. The Screen will turn off after 5 minutes of no activity. The
problem occurs when I have the laptop plugged in and/or charging. The screen saver will not appear.
I can make it appear my going to the screen saver properties, but otherwise it won't appear.

My laptop has been recently rebooting on it's own when I'm using it. It doesn't seem to
matter what I'm doing when this happens. I just formatted and installed Windows XP on this
machine a few weeks ago. Not sure if there is some program that might be causing this problem. I

I just got my hands on a SATA hard drive last week and decided to install it on my desktop.
Currently, it's using an IDE type hard drive. I installed Windows XP Pro on this new SATA drive
with no problems. So I go about my usual business to create a Ghost image for it. I installed Ghost
and ran the backup feature. It restarted and then froze at the Ghost page in DOS mode. It see the
blue background and a big gray box in front. But no text or progress meter as it should have. So I
just hit Ctrl+Alt+Del and the same thing occurs. I chose to exit Ghost and use Windows....

I found out the hard way twice before that Windows XP will have a fit if you change too many
critical components due to it's crappy piracy protection methods. The hardware I am upgrading is
the Motherboard, CPU and Video Card which will obviously make WinXP have a fit and refuse to boot

I just got the parts for my new machine which is an AMD AM2 5000+ X2 64. I even broke down and

What was the latest problem you have with winXP ? Mine: I wanted to play NFSU2, but the program
didn't continue loading, so I wanted to kill it, ctrl-alt-del, killed speed2.exe and I tought
the problem was over. NOT, my pc hardly responded to anything, so after waiting a minute for
