The iPod Shuffle - Finally, an iPod for any occasion

What do we all think of the iPod shuffle? It's a nice little item, but I think I'd rather invest some extra money and get an iPod mini or 20 GB iPod. I need the HD space. My internal HD only has 10 GB of storage and I'm running a bit low.

Its too small for me, I would be afraid I would break it. No seriously, I really would just spend that money, and get a nice creative nuvo 256 mb with a screen.

yeah, but you would get half or one fourth the space. I also feel that I would just save and get a full ipod. But then again, I have never really been in the market for a flash player, so I am not the shuffle's target customer.

Yeah, get the creative if you only want, what, a 100 songs? but it's you choice. I not really too excited for a flash player either, I'll have to see... Those 20 and 40 GB iPods look pretty tempting... smile.gif

Yeah it's neat and everything... but like you said, I'd rather get an iPod mini or 20GB as well. I personally don't like that it doesn't have a screen. And I believe they only brought this thing out to make a few extra bucks. Something new to put out there so people can buy it and say "hey I've got the new iPod Shuffle! I am teh 1337!". Wow, that's the first time I've actually used any sort of "1337 speak", it's kind of weird. Anyway back on track... yeah I like this little thing, but definately wouldn't buy one. I doubt they'll be as popular as the regular iPod and iPod mini's.

And how is that different from any product by any company, ever?

I wouldn't really want them but they are popular:

And the Apple store in SF sold all of it's 2,000 iPod shuffles in four hours. So people are buying a cheap iPod. Maybe I'll get both... hehehe...

It also has no screen blink.gif Imagine Trying to shuffle through all of your Ipod songs without a screen to know where you are or whats next? thats why its called shuffle becuase you have no clue whats comming... Life is random HA! more like Apple just wants to throw out another product without investing in a good LCD screen nothing random about that

I agree with wreslur. No screen; not buying. Sure, it's compatible and doesn't take up as much room as the Ipod or Ipod mini but still, I prefer it if there was a screen so I would actually know what track is on and if I really want to listen to a song that I'm really hooked onto, I wouldn't have to keep on pressing the >>forward button just to find the freaking song. But, it's a new product, new design, and once again Apple is trying to overrun all the other mp3 player companies. Sure, it's a quirky little techy object that would attract many consumers but like all the other commentors, I rather save up for a mini Ipod or something that's even worth more than that.

Yes, I'd rather take an iPod with a screen, but I wouldn't mind a cheap one that shuffled the songs, because, to tell you the truth, I bet most of the time when I listen to music I just have my music shuffled and don't even look at the screen, I'm doing something else while I listen. So I don't think the shuffle is too bad. the problem I would have would be that means no playlists. I like play lists because I like to listen to different kinds of music depending on my mood.

But for those who want a cheap alternative, there's the shuffle.

This was a very smart idea on Apples part.

In my opinion, there is no reason to go with another brand of mp3 player other than Apple.

I'm hoping for Apple to release a few more ipods which can hold less songs but that won't matter as much, $100 for an mp3 player like that is pretty afordable.

Well, there are a few things to keep in mind about the shuffle:

1. It WILL play in normal order, not just shuffle mode.
2. For the price, it holds a lot of music
3. Sound quality, which for me means a lot. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1753026,00.asp
That is a good review. As it points out, the shuffle has insane audio quality.
4. It also works as a usb thumb drive. I find these usefull, and so that feature ups the value(for me) relative to other flash based players.
5. For the 1gb version, if you are still in school or a teacher, apple will give you a discount if you go through their education store on their website, which makes it even more of a value(to those that apply).

In any case its what you need/want out of your player. But despite the lack of screen, I think its a pretty good deal.

The ipod is way too expensive right now i have a mp3 player and it seems to work just fine for right now.

Well I would recomend the iPod. Probably a 20 or 40 GB one. You can see them all here at Apple's iPod page. I recomend one of the 20 or 40 GB iPods. I want to get a 20 GB iPod myself. It really depends on what feature ou want though. Some players have extra little features that some people like. What I really like is the way the iPod lets you read text files on the go. Right now I have my computer set up so it will add the news from RSS sites to my iPod, so I can keep up with the news during the day.

Yeah i've got an i-river, but i'm thinking of getting a good Hard Disk Player, either the I-pod or an i-river or a creative Zen touch. I've been looking at which one to choose and at the moment i'm thinking of getting a i-river becuase at the moment i have 256mb i-river mp3 player and it's lasted for a good 1 and a half years. But if someone knows otherwise about i-river or another good brand i'd love to hear about it.
