I'd like to install KDE on my FC5 system which currently just has GNOME. I guess all I'd have to do is open a terminal, su -, yum install kde & it should download & install then logout & log back in using KDE?

not that fast, you also should configure your XDM to point to KDE too, but I forogt how as I haven't used FC since version 3. xboxrulz

i would expect the rpm's post install cionfig script to add the desktop to kdm / gdm / whatever login manager you are using.

Fedora Core have a robust security.. they keep on pacthing that one i remembered that fedora have blocked my access on the same machine when i tried to modiy some settings.. -- i like the fedora displays.. much more fin-tastic

Actually to install KDE, you'll do: CODE su -c "yum groupinstall 'KDE (K Desktop Environment)'" That should find all the required files to install the KDE environment and download it from the internet. Or you could do it from the CD unless you want the latest KDE. Cheers, MC

Slackware 12
Help Installing (1) I just finished downloading a 3.6GB Slackware 12 DVD. And now I'm trying to install it using
vmware with 256MB guest memory and 8GB virtual HDD. My computer has 2GB memory and 320GB HDD. After
booting from DVD image, the installation goes very slow. Anybody experience the same thing ? I
never find any problem when installing Slackware 11. Is it because the new features of Slackware 12

ive tried Gnome. I dont know why, but i just keep getting drawn towards it, only to then gt scared
off, and go back to the familiar KDE interface. Only this time, ive moved over to Gnome, and i love
it ! gnome 2.8 didnt quite work for me, but 2.10 (and the up comming 2.12) have me hooked. Ive even
started un-installing most of my KDE components. I think in the end, it wasnt that i prefere Gnome
to KDE, but rather, i prefere GTK to QT. KDE just seems so clutttered, and....

Play .avi Files In Redhat
Need help in installing divX codecs... (6) The last few days have been spent in trying to get .avi files (Previously encoded using DivX codecs
in Windows). I've a collection of movies that I've backed up as .avi files and I'm out
of options trying one thing after another. So far: I have installed Helix player & Real Player; I

install' since there is no configure file and there are not instructions either). Also, Xine

(3) In a normal reboot operation, after logined to X desktop, some error messages popped up: They are
