IBM 390x With Win98 - battery problem...

Grafitti
I got an old laptop from someone, and had to load windows98 on it, as it's too slow to take anything better. I was able to find all the drivers on the internet, in particular from driverguide.com and IBM's website, but there was no driver for power management or battery. There is a battery in the laptop, but in power options it says i don't have one. how can i get the computer to accept that there's a battery there? As it is now, as soon as i pull the power cord the laptop goes off.

I'm pretty sure that battery is dead now and no longer good to use. Heh i have a 486 AST laptop and it as well has a dead battery in it. There is no point in buying a battery for it as it will cost as much as the laptops current value.

Hey all, I own a Samung NV 5000 laptop and the battery could now only last for 30-45 minutes :s. I
read from here: Apple Notebook Batteries that it would be best to discharge your battery once a

I'm currently using a regular power surge protector for my computers. I have been thinking of
buying a UPS battery backup instead. Is there any big advantage over having a regular surge
protector? I mean, if I do get a surge, will the UPS backup still be in good condition for me to
shut my computer down properly? Most of the lower end UPS backups I've seen say the power run
time is 4-10 minutes long. Why does it take 4-8 hours to charge it up to 90% and give so little
power usage at the end? What should I look for in terms of joules, VA, and other terms I see be...

I had my laptop for over a year and suddenly one day it won't hold the charge in the battery

not the battery. Tested ok. They said it was the charging port. Warranty was over already so I dealt
with the issue...about 3 years now. I want to know how to repair this. Do I have to change the whole
motherboard to replace that battery compartment area? Or is there an easier way to do this? The

Before continuing with my post, I must admit that this may not be the appropriate forum for posting

of batteries available for mobile phones: Nickel Cadmium (NiCd) These are least expensive of
rechargable batteries, but suffer from inherent shortcomings like memory effect. Here, if the
battery is not fully drained before recharging, the unused portion crystallizes hence the complete
capacity of the battery is not fully used. Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) This technolo...
