I did a search for it, and Microsoft came up as number 6. I think that it may have moved because either traffic flow changed or Google improved its search algorithm for more relevant results (i.e. the W3C thing on HTTP first).

He He...firefox Supporting Microsoft - A hidden something

Go to firefox and type "http://http" (Without Quotes) You will be automatically taken to the Microsoft website. This left me a bit confused at best. I soon figured the reason. Apparently Firefox uses Google's "I'm feeling Lucky" option for a word after "http://" Now the first result is Microsoft's website. Now google for some reason feels that "http" has got something to do with microsoft. How's that??

Well... Maybe it's because the word http occurs 108 times on the main page of microsoft

They even used them to link to their own stuff

I guess if they never heard of relative linking

Is the Microsoft website th most trafficked website in the Internet? I read somewhere before that the most popular website on earth is Yahoo. Can anyone confirm that?

umm I am not sure that info is correct, I am pretty sure the most used messenger program (not counting IRC) is AIM followed by MSN Messanger

from personal experience, I have yet to have even ONE contact on my Yahoo messenger list (Maybe cause i have no friends? blink.gif )

If I'm wrong they I guess its a geographic thing for which service you use.

i think micro$osft msn messenger has more users.....

When micro$soft took over hotmail... they gained a big comunity behind it.. (that's why they bought it)..

And yahoo did the exact same thing with rocketmail (for you internet oldies who use it, i did back in '96)

The thing is msn messenger appeared first... it came preinstalled on windows.... it was gaining field before yahoo......

sad, but treu.. well.. not sad, msn messenger it's great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

According to Alexa, Yahoo is the top most site where more users visiting daily!
( I think, they are calculating it from alexa tool bar users)
Here is the top sites list from Alexa

(Note: Many of the spyware removers will consider ALexa toolbar as spyware as it s sending user browsing details to Alexa Server)

I think that was just a bug with either Firefox, Google, or both. It doesn't happen now; I was directed to http.com. The results on the first page of Google does not contain even a single instance of the word "Microsoft". I have results on HTTP, Altavista, Apache, Ask.com, Wikipedia, and, strangely enough, Regulations.gov. I wonder how that got there. *shrugs*

Regarding instant messaging, I'm pretty sure Windows Live Messenger (formerly MSN Messenger) has the largest user base. I rarely go on Yahoo! Instant Messenger now, and when I do, not one of my (maybe six contacts?) are online. They've all permanently switched to Windows Live.

Well, maybe something changed, but when I wrote http://http in firefox address bar I got to http.com website smile.gif Same happened with Opera browser. However, when I used google and typed http and pressed I am feeling lucky, I got to w3.org/Protocols/ site smile.gif

Funny I don't know how you got Microsoft's website, must have been a fluke. Due to the fact I got a domain purchase website and then when I search google i got the protocol links referring to http.
