| | I used to beleive that god exists, and I was very religious. Than, when I was 14, I started to think about that idea and I concluded that god doesn't exist. I became an atheist. At first I was a little bit afraid to say that, or to say anything bad about god and church because subcontiosly I still beleived in god, and I had feeling that something bad will happen to me.
Now after 7 years I'm complete atheist and now I can't quite understand beleivers. I'm not agains religion, everyone should have the right to beleive in what ever he/she wants, but I usually don't like churches. Yesterday I stummbled accross a book written by priest of Serbian Ortodox Church who also has a degree in physich. The book should tell us that science is wrong, but the book was full of lies (I study physics). So use lies, and then tell us DO NOT LIE. Bible is also full of imposible stories, like Noa's Arch (sorry if I misspelled). How could Noa save animals from America and Australia. People didn't even know of these continents? |

Now that is a clever bit of rhetoric. Say that everyone should have the right to believe in whatever they want, but anyone who believes something different is a liar. You say that you study physics and therefore you have the credentials to pass judgement on someone with a degree in physics? I have a masters in physics. Are you willing to run these so called lies past me for a second opinion?

Let me put it this way, I don't have a degree in software development or anything similar but I can darn well guarentee you that I can put alot of them to shame (to a certain degree). Bits of useless paper don't mean anything. I think what he meant was, what ever related to psychics in that book, there may have been some facts that are obviously false.

In software development, I can see how that is possible. I am a programmer myself with no degree in Computer Science. And those classes I did take from the CS department have little to do with my programing abilities. However, physics is something completely different. In any case, I only expressed doubt and suggested he run these so called "lies" past me. Physics is a complex subject which even throws the physicists for a loop now and then. And there are also physicists who depart from the physics community to create fantastic theories which are so disconnected from the traditions of physics that they are practically meaningless (at least, more philosophy than science).

Yeah I certainly wouldn't mind learning it myself, but I realise it's one of those things that can really catch you out and isn't easy to keep a good grasp on.

I can give you link to that website if you speak Serbian. That priest says that Earth cannot be older than 30.000 years because there would be no C-14. He forgets that C-14 is formed in other nuclear reactions. Then he says that universe is not closed thermodinamical system because after all stars die universe will cool down. For him that is violation of energy preservation law. Than space have to be open system, so god created it. It is not true, space don't have to cool down to absolute zero. There is also one more possibility that universe colapses back. There are probably many other thing in that book, I only read few lines of it.

No I don't. But I have heard enough. It may be a little harsh to call them lies, unless he claims what he says to be any sort of science. Clearly he is grasping at any chink he sees in the logic of science in his search for the possibility of the truth of his spirituality. Frankly I cannot even imagine what he thinks he has even proven by this 30,000 year argument -- well maybe I do: I guess it is some sorth of old earth creationism or non-biblical younger earth creationism.

Well we all know some people out there will do anything to make it look real or even to dismiss it's existance whether it be false or true, which is one the problems. And then there's the people that really believe one or the other but with false information.... It's difficult to say the least to even begin disecting it eh?

It can even be that GOD made the evolution to occur. If we are to explore a topic we cant be rigid we have to let things come frm all the sides. If we look at what modern sceintist are finding, and some of the Eastern thoughts there is a starking similarity between the two. The formation of Universe by the big bang and eventually the big crunch has all been described in the BHAGWATA GITA- The Holy book of the Hindus.

mitchellmckain I called u frustrated because u were calling people extremists. Anyway I said that very jokingly. Regarding Old Testament, since it does not belong to my religion I would refrain from making any comments or bringing out excerpts where God is shown as a merciless killer, but howsoever most who have read it, know so. There was a discussion regarding that even here some time back. Eternal_Bliss
Can you please show a reference to the shloka where the Big Bang is explained? I am not doubting it, but wondering if I could get a reference to it. The most striking comment that Bhagwad Gita makes is "Time is the seed of the Universe" and when Lord Krishna says Humans are beings with physical existence stuck in Time. God is out of time. This makes me believe atleast one hting for sure, that the ancient mythologies were not just written by some creative authors, but by gaining of first hand knowledge.

Do Aliens Really Exist? Hot Debate!
do they really exist? (123) I don't think they do.. I think there are UFOs, but man made them. There's so many secret
government things going on.. I'm kinda naiive about that department, but I really don't
think they exist. I believe in the Bible, and there's really no evidence that God created
aliens. The human mind is able to generate thoughts like that and I think that's what they are.....
