Do you still remember the days when our free Hotmail and Yahoo mail inboxes were only a few megabytes? 2mb for hotmail and 4 mb for Yahoo! Mail? With the entry of Google's Gmail which offers 1 Gigabyte of free email storage space, the battle is set between all these free email providers. Who do you think is winning?
I remembered that Yahoo! quickly followed up with 250mb soon after Gmail. I was using Hotmail, and I was conficent that MSN will also increase storage space. But they didn't and I switced to Gmail which now offers 2 gig. Hotmail has only recently gave out 250mb and it was only for US residents. Now Yahoo is giving 1 gig. MSN Hotmail is still slow.
So who do you think is winning the email battle?
Notice from m^e:
This isn't a tutorial by any means. At least make sure your posts are heading for the right forum. Moved to Internet & Websites.
I have gone over to using gmail, as hotmail iritates the hell outta me. I have more junk mail on hotmail than actual mail, and there is no way of getting rid of it. I have had my gmail account for about 5 months and have not had one bit of crap on it yet. The size of the inbox is immense and it is easy to use.
So i think that gmail will come out on top in the email battle.
I really can't stand Hotmail, it's really terrible. I get so irratated by loads of people who (after offering Gmail invites to) go on about how Gmail looks horrible and Hotmail is lovely and blue - how can Hotmail look good, almost the entire screen is taken up by hideous adverts and tons of spam. Yahoo must have been so gutted, after finally managing to up thier capacity to 1GB for free users, and thinking "yeah, we can take on Gmail", Gmail more than doubles thier capacity overnight.
In my opinion, Yahoo and Hotmail are always going to be inferior to Gmail. Gmail's features are so much more advanced, it is so much more powerful and generally better than all competition, Yahoo and Hotmail don't stand a chance.
msn/hotmail would have to be my favorite.. i have e-mail accounts with aol, hotmail, and yahoo.. but out of the ones you mentioned, i prefer hotmail. i have 3 accounts with them, and yahoo, i don't get much mail to check.. i don't know anyone who uses g-mail..
If Gmail still in beta, I think Yahoo! will win. But I'm still waiting dor Gmail to go public. I like the conversation style inbox. It's kind of organized. I wish Yahoo could do the same thing too. We can track all the mail which we reply and receive.
Gmail is the winner without any doubt. Its super speed, simple and easy interface, no banner ads and offcourse 2 GB space are uncomparable to any other mail provider. And it is still in Beta. I think it will improve a lot when the first version will be release in public. So Gmail all the way.
I really dont see why anyone would need so much email storage space. Filling up 1 gig with text files takes so long, you might as well have unlimited space. As for Hotmail, it took a bad hit when it got cracked a while back, allowing anyone to find out anyone elses password.
I just don't know what I gotta do with 1 Gig. I'm using Hotmail, but that's enough for me.. so I don't think I need Gmail or Yahoo! mail. And maybe Hotmail will follow Gmail and make it 2 Gig.. than I got more space..!
I think MSN Hotmail was personally trying to grow too quickly, rather than broaden its regions with higher premium rate services, maybe a $1 e-mail loaded with features.
MSN Hotmail should have noticed thier failures on thier system that happened everyday like thier html text for smileys etc., and pick up on that first before trying to increase their size by 25mb or something small like that.
If they had a £1 or $1.99 e-mail account for the whole year, which had say 5gb, had a seperate hosting site, more bandwidth etc, then I think they would be well in the hundreds of thousands for buyers for that And by making all accounts after that say $1 or £0.69 or something it would really attract it, and people would be making accounts all the time thinking that it was mega cheap.
I guess there is sentimental value attached to the email which you have been using most frequently
Most of my friends are still writing to my old mail, so I cannot really switch to gmail. I tried explaining them "please you should better write to my gmail mailbox", then they write once to the old one and once to gmail, and when the phone "you did not answer my mail" i cant' find it any more. There should be a way of reading the hotmail mails from my gmail box.
I like Yahoo because I have all(Hotmail,Yahoo!Mail and Gmail) but Gmail has 2GB and growing.Yahoo!Mail gives 1 email address(your user name)and 1 email that you want(example:coo.l48274@yahoo.com)and you can put a dot(.) in the email addess! Also Yahoo! has alot of stuff (music,dating,movies,answers,geocities,360,my yahoo...).Hotmail has little space.
I was looking for an alternative to GMail. Something that has a sleek interface and has something
like 1GB of storage. I dont care about advanced functionality like labeling and searching. Any
suggestions? ....
if you haven't tried it yet, you can try it now https://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2 I'm not
sure you will like it or not, it isn't perfect like the older version This new version take
longer time for the first time loading, but when your browser has cached, it faster the interface
doesn't change much, but if you notice you can see it works more smoothly than the older (not
your browser, your CPU usage will always very high while using this new Gmail version) the most
liked thing in this new version in my opinion is I can know who has sent mail to me dir....
Recently Windows Live Hotmail started to have some problems. First problem is that when I want to
reply or forward a mail, it doesn't include the mail (the box in wich I have to compose my mail
is empty). Now the real problem is that sometimes it does include the old mail (the one on wich I
want to reply) when I press "send" and sometimes it doesn't. Am I the only one having these
problems ? ps. I do use Opera and haven't had this problem before.....

Yes, I suspected that ever-growing gmail storage space wouldn't last forever. Caveat: check this

can promise you 50 GB of online storage, but if they are going to impose limits on the file size,
that's going to make the whole thing worthless. - I'll be sticking with m....

QUOTE Lycos announced last week that their new e-mail service, currently in beta testing, will
offer 3GB of storage and allow the size of attachments sent and received to be unlimited - for free.
An upgraded plan for 20 dollars would boost the storage capacity to 5 GB, but 3 GB should be
sufficient for most regular internet and e-mail users. This paid email service is the first of its
kind, with exception to Yahoo Mail, which was my former mail client, but with Gmail's new
appearance, I stopped using the deprecated Yahoo mail, which offers only 2 GB of space, com....

I think a kinda page is needed where people can post their email addresses so that they recieve a
gmail invitation on that address. The person who posts his email address, basically routes a
request to an already existing member(s). The member sends him an invitation and acknowledges it (so
that not all members end up sending invites). This would, for the time being, act as a sign up page
for Gmail. I know so many newbies on net who have to do way with services like yahoo and hotmail
(when no one actually needs them with gmail around).....
Hey guys if you been reading the news, you heard that Microsoft is testing Kahuna, its new AJAX web
based mail application. It's sort of an Outlook on the browser with a lot of cool features and a
whole lot of improvement. So yea, Microsoft is testing it right now and you want to be part of it?
Here's the link I found, not many people know it and others didn't even knew it existed, but
you sign up here: http://test.msn.ignia.com/minisites/hotmai...px?locale=en-us I already did, I
hope they contact me soon so I can test Kahuna and be one of the "chosen ones"....
GMail started the trend of offering huge email space. Yahoo and Hotmail followed. Now a similar
path is being pursued with something connected albeit a tad late - the user interface. No matter how
much space is offered, a bad ( or rather not too feature-rich) user interface might just send a
prospective user to the competition. Hotmail is currently BETA testing its new webmail interface
and is calling it "Kahuna". It's currently an invite-only test, so you need to be brought in (
shades of GMail exclusivity at work here ). At first glance, it looks like someone ....
I am not sure if this is the right place to post this, but here it goes... I saw lately that a lot
of ppl use their gmail accounts for msn messenger, however I read the policy of gmail and what I
understood was that it is not legal to use other clients, such as msn and all. So my question is
this: is it legal to use gmail accounts for msn messenger? And if there are limitations, what are
those?....
At http://isnoop.net/gmail/ they have taken invite donations from users with nothing better to
do with their invites and have given to this site! Just type in your e-mail address, and then you
will receive an invitation to sign up for a Gmail account. If you can't find something to do
with your 50 invites, donate them to isnoop.net. I think they have enough for anybody who wants a
Gmail account now, but it couldn't hurt. All the directions are on the page.

well, you must have been aware of gmail service offered by google, they are giving 2GB's to its
