 I have been working on a java applet that requires access to a MySQL database. I have been
receiving an error. When I run the file my applet tries to access the user’s database not my
server's database! I was using the mysql:localhost/database... method just like in PHP but
apparently localhost doesn't mean the same think in Java. Seems funny but I need to know the
location (URL) to the MySQL databases on Astahost. I am on the Gamma server if that makes a

Does anyone know of any good "download" sites, like Download.com or Tucows that allow software
submissions? I have found a few smaller ones, and some decent looking ones like TopShareWare and
BrotherSoft, but most of them (including Download.com and Tucows) are very, well..... bloated to

well, yesterday i was trying to make a database on my computer with phpmyadmin. It worked the day
before and all the other times but now it wont let me, access is denied. I just get an error (1045
Access denied for user root@localhost using password :no) so basically wot do i do? i hadnt touched
anything, it just stopped working. i cant think of anything that could have happened besides that my
IP had chnged from the last time i used it. i cant use phpmyadmin or the command line. oh and im
using xampp by the way, and its on my jumpdrive using portable apps. anyone kn...

Hi, is there an alternative method that's similar to Server Side Includes? I remember there was
one but forgot what it's called. I need someone to help explain what SSI is because I think
I'm using it but don't know if it's as simple as what I think it is. I use it mainly for
repeating text on my site (like the copyright stuff on each page). Is there another purpose for it?

I am running apache web server behind NetGear router. I can access all my documents with sufficient
speed from all computers which are behind same router. . However, same server serves these
documents very slow when I try to access it from somewhere outside. If I remove the router and plug
in cable modem directly to my server, it has no problem. Could somebody please help me in this

I was wondering... wouldn't it be cool to have a little space with a sort of directory where
anyone who wants the other members of astahost forums to visit their website could just post the

I am helping on developing an Intranet for my school. We have a server with Fedora Core 3 installed
and Apache. I got FTP working too but root access is denied as default. But we have a problem. We
would like users to be able to have accounts for their pages, but we don't want to give root FTP
access. When we go to http://SERVERIP/~account , we get an access denied page. Anyone have any

yeah im an amatuer photographer but i was thinking that with so many stock sites out there i might
make some money with pics that would only get old on my HD and i wouldent use anyways otherwise.
Ive signed up for Shutterstock.com and also Imagevortex.com $0.20 is pretty lousy i guess but with
imagevortex you can set your own price. Anybody else have any experience with these sites and
