Firefox (under Winxp) Crashes Everytime I Start - I'm not quite sure if this goes here...

I seem to be having problems with firefox. I try to open firefox, and XP gives me the default "firefox has encoutered an error and must be shut down..." Anyway, I tried installing the new version, and It doesn't make a difference. I uninstalled, and reinstalled it, but it still does it.

you might wanna try deleting all files in c:/documents & settings/all users/application data/mozilla

application data is an invisible folder, so you might have to change the option to "show all files in "extra -> options in your explorer window.

cheers.

Yep, that and also make sure you delete the directory where FF was installed. The uninstaller might leave some stuff (like plugins) there.

Then there's the usual tip... Scan for spyware & virii.

Do you have SP2? That causes alot of errors with
"External" browsers (Browsers that do not come with Windows, Meaning all except AOL biggrin.gif and Internet explorer). Probaly what you want to do is take SP2 out, set the browser that you run on right now as the main browser, then if you feel like you really need SP2 although I don't recommend it, you can re-download and re-install it. Then everything should work fine.

The only problem is, is that it was working fine with sp2 for over 6 months. If taking sp2 out will work, how do I do it? I'm not aware of any way you can remove a service pack.

Dear kevlar557,

My laptop is running Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2
and Mozilla Firefox 1.0.3 without problems.

Everyday, I have the virus-checker run its update process,
and the same goes for the spyware detector.

Connection to the internet is via a broadband router+switch+nat,
with imbedded solid firewall (50$ these days).

Are you certain that your machine is "clean"?

I'm just about positive that my computer is clean. I do the same as you, except I run an adware detector also. I'm just about ready to reformat my hard drive. I can't live without my firefox. I need tabs, extensions and themes.

WHY DONT YOU JUST REINSTALL THE FIREFOX OR CONTACT THE FIREFOX SUPPORT TEAM FOR HELP.....NOT SO COMPLICATED EH....?

Notice from moonwitch:
If you had read what Kevlar said, he has reinstalled FF several times, and there's no need whatsoever to SHOUT (don't type all caps) and there certainly is no need for rudeness. This got you a warning

Internet Explorer, but Mozilla is just much safer in general, so I'd rather use that. Any

  20. Why you should switch to Firefox now
    The GDIplus vulnerability (27)
This is about a new flaw in Internet Explorer and how it renders one of the most common image
formats in the web, the "JPEG". The code that enables a hacker to exploit this flaw is out to the
public and therefore in a matter of a couple of weeks, we'll be expecting a new virus that uses
this exploit. The GDIplus DLL (Graphic Device Interface plus) or gdiplus.dll is only enabled in
Windows 2000 & XP. So if you're running on an older version of Windows and if you've
upgraded to XP SP2, then you're not vulnerable to this exploit. Read more about it here ....
