Usually, to integrate WiFi capabilities into an existing LAN involves interfacing a wireless router with an existing LAN and configuring it as an access point. If it is meant for free public use, then it may not be necessary to encrypt the transmission, otherwise it is advisable to encrypt it with at leas a 64-bit WEP (Wireless Encryption Protocol) key. Depending on the gain in db of the attached antenna, the radius of wireless coverage can vary from 250meters to close to 450meters. Now comes the stage where we need to extend the coverage of the wireless transmission, there ars several possible ways to tackle this problem, 1 attach by means of a network cable another access point to the existing LAN 2 increase the amplification by adding an amplifier to the initial access point 3 use the wireless access point's WDS (Wireless Distribution System) functionality to add access points at strategic locations to create a wireless mesh. The third method is what I shall focus on in this discourse. Almost all wireless routers at least the more recent models have this function built in, so it will not be an uphill task procuring an AP with WDS functionality. More on this soon!

WEP is dead ! Almost everybody can hack WEP in 15 minutes (pro's do this in a minute or 2). The absolute minimum you should use is WPA. and I suppose you live outdoors or have a 10dB-antenna ? 250m is a lot, especialy indoors, 50m-70m is more realistic imho.

How do you upgrade from WEP to WPA, or how do we check what we have (I know its one of them).

Tracing Broadcast Storms
A poorly managed or configured layer 2 switch may affect network laten (3) In some cases, a single layer 2 switching device configured improperly can cause serious
connectivity problems, especially on a large network. Problems of this nature behave similar to
Denial of Service (DoS) attacks but are slightly easier to track. Most intranets serve a central
location where other internal networks are connected. Whether it is a remote off-site location or
only accessible by taking an underground railway, it's usually the best place to start
disconnecting backbones to find out which physical subnet is causing the problem. Broadcast storms
are ge....

Kubuntu is installed on my slave drive. Everything seems to work great except that I cannot connect

Share Internet Using Router And Modem That Uses Usb?

They are using AOL DSL and had their ISP's modem. They have a Linksys router (forgot what
model...WRT something) and I tried almost everything I can think of to no avail. Here is the
problem. The modem connects to the computer using USB ONLY. It has an ethernet adapter in the back
of the modem but it will not work (needs the USB either way). After playing around more for over an
hour, I came to some "conclusion" that the other machines need the modem to be connected via ....
Wireless: Bypassing Mac Filtering
Tutorial (12) Sometimes you scan the neighborhood for the wireless connections, you see open connections but can

only to show you it is possible to bypass this security. I am not responsible for unauthorized use
of these information. Requirements : 1- You need some tool for sniffing the traffic. I suggest

30kb/s. Could it be a problem with the ISP?....

Setting Up Wireless Internet For Mac Os
(7) Hi, I just got my iMac today and want to set it up to have wireless internet using my DSL Router. I
got a USB Wireless Adapter (for the Mac OS) and installed the drivers for it. Then I restarted and
plugged in the USB adapter. The manual said a flashing icon should be on the upper left, but I
didn't see this. So I went into the Preferences (I think) and found the 802.11b adapter there.
I clicked on it and on the left, chose Create... I left it at Access Point (hope that's
correct) and set it to 26 digits for the password. Currently I'm using 128 bit en....
