Uh, .edu domains are pretty much reserved for schools. There's a reason why the domains have .edu--it's to distinguish between that and the other domains like .com or .net. Is There An Easy Way To Register A .edu Domain - a friend of mine who is a principal wants me to so some errand

I know a little about domain name and such that you need to buy em, but later on, I realize there had been two known top level domains that was not in the option. I googled it up and still nobody is selling it or such.

Then got to read some info about you need to http://net.educause.edu/edudomain for eligibility and so I went there. God, it there a better way than reading some bunch of text and a whole lot of paperwork to be done, which I do hate the most.

Is there like a godaddy version of it.

I guess that if you are not a university, you cannot have a .edu domain name. Are you really the network admin of a recognized university ? Or do you want to create a fake website as if you were part of a university ?

Yea maybe if you explain why you would want a .edu address we can help more. They protect certain top level domains in order to avoid having random people using up or impersonating the intended user base. Domains like .gov, .edu, etc have specific purposes that they want to protect so that people can trust sites with those domains that they belong to a specific group. Hence the paperwork and why I doubt there is a quick way to get a .edu wink.gif

Thank goodness some domain extensions are more resistant to useless crap. Really does the internet need a few hundred thousands porn sites posing as educational in a respectable way?

Some top-level domain names (e.g. .gov and .edu) cannot be simply be purchased 'off-the-shelf' without excessive paperwork like other top-level domains can, including .com .org .info .biz. These domains are locked to all but the relevant government and educational institutions and organisations that have the proper rights to use those .gov and .edu domain names.

On the topic, you will probably have to get the principal (i.e. your friend) to register with the above website you mentioned. It is unlikely you can do it on his behalf.

Its not that I want create a fake site or anything. Im doing this as a favor to my friend, now, the principal of the high school department of a school. It actually is existing for for more than 60 years now with complete primary and secondary education but they still didn't have enough standards for a University. They have a website, I don't know who made it but its kinda old too and un-updated. http://www.pcc.edu.tripod.com/ . Too bad, I could make it a little bit better.

if you want to use something similar to, you could find a domain, I don't know if they are active, but for example using such domains like edu.com or edu.net, edu.uk, edu.co.nr are quite a normal alternative which doesn't require any paper work, edu.uni.cc and etc. of course if those domains are available, I just linked you to a suggestion tongue.gif

There must be a procedure for acquiring an .edu domain that you cannot, as an individual, complete. It has to be done by the school as an institution - that way everything should (actually, must) go smoothly, regardless of the necessary paperwork.

So, there is no real problem. You simply have to start the paperwork, prepare everything, print every paper having to be sent, and ask the prinicpal tof the hight school department to put his own signature on the paper and send the paper, and tell you as soon as he recieves the OK.
Of course, in order to convince him, you probably should start working on the new website and show him how smarter your job is.
You know, it's easy to say "I should be able to do something better", it's sometimes not so easy to have the job started and moreover finished. So, if you show him on a CD-ROM some webpages that are really nicer than the current one, he will be prettiy convinced and will be motivated for doing the paper job for obtaining the edu domain name.

I pretty much agree with everyone that unless your building a school website or your school is seeking to have a website you have to go through the channels. Of course, if like one member said about useless junk your best bet would be to hack a school website and then upload your useless junk, but of course pray that you don't get caught because you go to jail for that one.

That's pretty pointless, though. There are plenty of other places to host useless junk (try gmail, for one) that aren't going to penalize you very much. Even if you get caught using gdrive with gmail, the most they'll do is kick you off gmail; they're not going to try to press for legal action (as that's far too much of a hassle). If all you want is a storage device, there are far safer ways to do it than hacking a school website.

Ah, now I see. Then it's pretty easy, just get the guy to start the paperwork. You pretty much have to; there are no shortcuts to this. But it's not like it'll be that much work...everything will work out in the end. And plus, don't most principals have at least some other people assisting them? It's not like he's the only one handling the paperwork, so if he really, really didn't want to do it, couldn't he push it off onto someone else instead? (Like say, a secretary?) Of course, keep in mind that you don't need an .edu domain to make the high school's website look nice. That depends on your own web design skills and has next to nothing to do with the domain name. Sure, it may sound more 'professional', but 'professional' is more about the look than about the domain.

Good luck!

Here is a reverse IP domain check tool that takes the domain name or IP address of a web server and

server is important from both an SEO and web filtering perspective, particularly for those on shared
web hosting plans. I tried it with dserban.astahost.com, and I was impressed with the results.
