SMF easily,

Its in your control panel already but I have this tutorial which I made that you could follow.

http://www.astahost.com/smf-asta-style-t3399.html

Its step by step and ask if you have ANY trouble, the people here are well versed in the workings of SMF.

I suggest you use invisionfree. You don't need any scripting expierence or things and it's free, it's the same board astahost use :B. Register here: www.invisionfree.com

To be fair, all the major bulletin board systems are really easy to install. If you are hosted here at asta, you can use Fantastico to install SMF, Invision or phpBB automatically, just filling out few form fields! It's actually easier to do than to register a one from invisionfree or other such service.

What I suggest is that you look into the different systems, by visiting their official websites http://www.simplemachines.org/, http://www.invisionboard.com and http://www.phpbb.com and check which has the features that suit your purpose the best. Also paying attention to what systems the forums that you visit use gives a pretty good idea of what each system can and can not do.

And then, you could just go and install all of them, try them out, use the admin panels and changing the look to your liking... Then just pick the one which you like the most. smile.gif

Most of the Bulletin Board systems are easy to install and administer. I suggest not using invision your first time out simply because of all of the options availible to the admin. It can be pretty overwhelming for experienced forum admins.

I really don't care much for phpBB so if you want a free forum I suggest SMF. Most of the options are pretty self expainitory and the application can grow as you see the need for add-on packages which by the way most are automatically installed and you don't have to know any code. Just download the package and then use the package installer.

By the way, Invision is not provided in Fantastico any longer.

Hope this helps, cool.gif

SMF is by far the best forum software for every purpose and best of all it's completely free and semi-open source.

If you want a very very bare-bones forum software there are many that don't even use a database, just text files which are incredibly easy to mod and manage which I would recommend, but you'll find them lacking basic features that you need.

Well, today Ir elised more than ever that my beloved SMF is still the best. Today I was doing some
tests of the new ->SMF convertors, which are amazing in their selfs, first all you need to specify
it the old forum location and the new location, and it will find the database settings and
everything by itself, once its got the data it emptys the SMF forum of its data and then moves the
old data over. If the server load is going to be too large, it does it in small chunks, I think its
500 messages/members/stuff at a time, so large forums will take a while, but the server ....
