Dell, Windows, Or Me? - Weird problem with speakers....

Admiral Lyoko Samus
Ok, I've had this problem for about a year. I've tried every single configuration offered by the BIOS, Windows, and even the hardware itself, but my speaker's refuse to be balanced! Though Windows says they are, I know my speaker's are unbalanced. The right is louder than the left. I have absolutely no clue what's wrong with it, so here's system specs:

Manufacturer: Dell
Model: Dimension 4600
Processor: Pentium 4 with Hyperthreading @ 2.4 Ghz
RAM: 512 MB
HDD: 111 GB Windows Partition | 9 GB Dell Partition
Speakers: Harmon/Kardon Stereo Speakers with Subwoofer
Sound Card: Creative Sound Blaster LIVE! Series

Suggestions?

This may be out in the left field but here we go:

Did you try the speakers on another computer and did you try another set of speakers on this computer? if the magnet crapped out on one speaker the balance will be difficult to obtain?

I'm not a music person so I wouldn't hear the difference. I'm suggesting this as a way of eliminating one or the other. (It's my way of eliminating a lot of simple issues)

Indeed, it could be a pure hardware malfunction... Did you try those speakers with another pc? Maybe they're just crappy smile.gif

*Laughes* I wouldn't doubt it, but I don't trust any hardware from this computer with my old one. *Eyes it skeptically as it gather's dust, considering it needs a new heatsink wink.gif * Maybe I can splice my CD player...

What model of Harman Kardon speakers you have? The problem is most likely the speakers and not the computer. My HK speakers from Dell had some problems I think too.

Model #: HK395 (or, at least, that's what it says on the back of the subwoofer)

Not sure if that applies to the speakers too, but they are connected to the subwoofer via a satellite port (naturally). Hope that helps.

You have to look beyond the trees to see the forest. I think your problem is the volume control for your speakers. I have seen similar problems like this and found that the volume control was faulty due to the cheap design, one of the tracks gets worn faster and cause this problem.

Get a pair of jumper clips and bypass your volume control and see if the left and right don’t balance out?

Anyway I can do that without my parents noticing the rig? Especially since they'll scream their heads off at me and ask, "What the h**l did you do to this! Get rid of it!"
Me: But Mom, all I did was balance out the speakers!
Mom: They worked fine before! Now, get rid of that!
Me: *Under breath* That's because you are deaf and have no appreciation for the arts... laugh.gif

So my uncle asks me to format his computer and install windows and stuff. So I did like I do with my
PC every six months. No problems at all, everything was working. So I proceeded to install drivers,
which I had already on my flash drive, a 2GB PNY flash drive. But, for some reason, the usb drive
was not recognized by windows XP on my uncle's PC, and I tried again on another port. No luck. I
was thinking maybe all the usb ports were broken or something... but then I went to my desktop and
proceeded to connect my usb drive to burn the drivers on to a CD. And what&#....

  6. Dell Computer "shuts Down" When Opening Email
    (31)
I have a Dell Optiplex GX 270 computer here and the problem is that it shuts down randomly when
viewing email in Outlook. It doesn't seem to do this when doing anything else online. Could a
network cause issue this kind of problem? I'm going to see if the other machines are doing this
as well. The funny thing is that the machine itself still seems to be running. The light on the
monitor is orange, but the computer's light is green and the fan is still spinning in the back.

One of my friends has a Dell 600m which he bought around the same time as me. We pretty much have

problems since the time he got the laptop with it overheating to the point of it locking down.
I'll agree that the Dell 600m's from the Summer of 2003 will get way too hot for normal
laptop use. My laptop has only locked up once or twice for me because of it overheating, but his
computer will lock up every time he doesn't have it on a cooling pad. And even then the....

When is a good time to buy a Alienware product? (3)
Hello everyone, I had an earlier post that talked about the Alienware computer that I was going to
get. But, since then Dell and Alienware merged. Which I believe might lower the prices of
Alienware products eventually. So does anyone know if I should wait to see if Alienware lowers
their prices for computers, if so how long would you suggest I wait before making a purchase from
them? Or should I just go ahead and buy a product from them, assuming the fact that their prices
will not lower anyway. Please give my info on my situation if you can, thanks in advance.......
