| | I remember my first PC. We had a Tandy 1000 EX, and it ran off of 256k memory. We had an old green grey black and white monitor that ran louder than any other appliance! Everything was MSDOS, and if it weren't for preprogrammed games, we would run them from the DOS prompt.
I guess it was pretty reliable, but the newer systems at the time were all for play, and my parents thought it was best to get some other usage out of it. We did a lot of Basic programming, but we used to play King's Quest and RPG games like that back then.
At school, we began to play with Commdore 64s, and some Atari systems. It was the flippen coolest thing back then. I remember playing games like PacMan on the commodore, and a lot of cool educational programs. Oh, how times have changed, but the PC is still reliable, but now it is so much more used than it used to be. |

The commodore64 had an organ player : you typed a b c d on the keyboard and it played notes, I loved playing "Oh when the saints" at work, all collegues looked around without understanding where the music was coming from.

I used to have a commodore also, when i was younger I used to play around with the speech function and make the computer say things! Then there was the games, I remember Sim City 2 where everything looked like blocks. It was a great game. If you turned on Caps Lock and money I think it was, you could get $1k each time. My uncle used to have this really old machine (I have no idea what it was) but it used to be black and green screen also, and when you wanted to load a game or application, you put a cassette into the cassette reader on the keyboard and it would read the cassette, then load the game. It used to take ages to load the games! The first computer I got for myself was a home built model, 2gb hard drive, 4mb video memory and 64mb system memory. It used to be great for all the games I played back then, now I can't imagine what I'd do with it! Actually, its still sitting out in the garage.

Hehe my first computer was terrible! It was an IBM, I'm not sure if it was free with my old internet connection or the internet connection was free with it? Dunno. My dad got it through his work. It had a dodgy 15 inch CRT monitor, 64mb RAM shared with graphics, AMD K processor, lmao a 56kbps modem. Umm yeah. Oh and a 4gb hard drive! LOL so many memories of it. I remember getting it, I was like 6 and the day it was coming like 5 people came to visit for some reason and everytime I heard a car pull up I got all excited until I saw my mums friends come inside. We also got free setup since back then no one in my family knew how to even turn one on. My parents still don't know much about them but I've gotten far.

I still was a kid when my brother got his first computer, obviously we both played with with it, it was an Atari 2060, it as I remember had 16 games inideeeeee the ROM and we could use cartridges, I don't know if it was a real Atari or some fake looking like Atari, but I remember quite well, that it had most of the standard games, galaga, tetris and etc. It was really cool, I was about ~6 years.. Later we got a ZX Spectrum 48kb, it had a keyboard and was integrated into one quite little box, it needed a TV, not a monitor and a it used cassettes through some sound system able to play the magnetic cassettes, I remember it had quite a lot of games, just you needed to wait for them to load, games like top gun, batman, even Today I can see that new games are developed by fans or programmers which knew how to do it, when I used to play with a Speccy emulator, I've seen games, usually not finished made in 1996-2002 years, even though the ZX spectrum was/is 1980-1985 or something like that.. I sometimes, turn on some Emulator and play those games, but usually not more than ~2 hours Later we got a ZX Spectrum 128kb, it was much better, it had it's own floppy drive and it used those big floppy disks, but quite soon we got an Amiga 500+, then Amiga 1200 which is still working and expanded, can connect to Internet and do everything, except for play mp3 with high quality do to it has a sound chipset 8 bit I believe and movies are very slow to watch I remember when I played Settlers 1 on it, most of my friends were really amazed by it, due to most of them didn't have a computer or they had a NES, evne though I had a NES too and later those Sega mega drive 2 and Playstation 1 ;] Later we bought a x86, used Linux Gentoo, Arch, I bought another x86 amd sempron, used Linux Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Gentoo/Arch and now I even use Windows XP, a pity I never got in into Mac computers and only used Mac OS through emulation.. I thought to get an Apple laptop and try them, but thought I rather get a laptop which works very well with Linux and won't spend my time with Macs, YET!

My very first own pc was a DX4-100, 32Mb EDO RAM, 500Mb HDD, S3 Virge DX (with 4Mb ram ?), a 3,5" and 5,25" floppy drive and an 8x CD-player. It had a 14" CRT screen (800x600@60Hz !) and a matrix printer, it ran win95 and god it was slow, but at least I could play DOS games on it . The oldest pc I've had was a commodore64 followed by an 8Mhz Intel 286 .

My first computer, if I remembered correctly was a Pentium 133 MHz, w/ a 2GB HDD, 32MB RAM (or 64MB), one CD ROM and one floppy drive. It was attached to a 12" monitor. I had fond memories of playing Starcraft on it. Fast forward 11 years and going through w/ a Pentium 4; I'm on an Athlon 64 X2 4200+ (2.2GHz), 320 GB HDD, 2GB of RAM, 1 DVD-RW, 1 CD-RW ... geez technology does change very rapidly. Back then we were on the verge of flipping over to the 32-bit environment, I guess it's time for us now to swap to 64-bit. I still play Starcraft to this very day, almost 10 years of Starcrafting =D! xboxrulz

Haha here I thought I would come in and say "wow my first pc was so bad" and everyone else would correct me with their older first systems, but then people are complaining about systems with 256 megs of ram?!?!?!?! I feel old But anyways, yea, my first computer had 600 megs of hard drive space, 8 megs of ram I think (or 4... but I'm pretty sure it was 8) with a blazing 386 processor. Yea, good times. I remembers playing tons of DOS games like Hugos House of Horrors, Zork, etc. Not to mention jezzball and solitaire on the cool windows 3.1 install and playing around in Bob If anyone else here ever used Bob, I'm sorry that you suffered like I did hahaha. But yea, memories memories memories. Wow. I think the processors in my systems went 386->200mhz->1.1ghz->2.8 heh ,pretty much a good example of how processor speeds have improved over the years.

Computer Terms
Here are some useful terms (3) For those of you who dont know all the terms and stuff i took the time to explain them...well some
of them... QUOTE ISO: A file that is created from an image of a CD. You can make an iso
yourself with a program such as Adaptec Easy CD Creator, or you can burn an ISO file to a CD-R to
create a copy of a CD. Bin/cue files: These are also used to create an image of a CD. Most people
burn these with CdrWin or Fireburner. The .bin file contains all the data for the cd, the .cue file
is just a small file in text format telling the software exactly how to burn the data....
