What Is The Best Antivirus Program?

AVG Free Edition is pretty good, considoring that it's free, but I've heard that it's quite easy for virus writers to get around (defeat) it.
Another good free one is Avast 4. The home edition (http://www.avast.com/eng/down_home.html) is completely free, and seems pretty good (I haven't tried it though), and if you want it for commercial use, you have to pay.

On my computer, I currently use Norton Anti Virus 2004 along with Microsoft Anti Spyware Beta1. They do a pretty good job together (but you should never install more than one Anti Virus package, they could clash with each other).

McAfee doesn't seem a bad chhoice, seeing as they currently have 205 off thier Home Edition (see http://www.mcafeestore.com/dr/sat4/ec_MAIN...ACHE_ID=123092)

I hope this is helpful, enjoy your time at Astahost ailentkarma smile.gif

I have tried Avast and I must say that it is really good. In fact I would have to say that it is the best that I have used. I really like how this program is free for home users and how it is not crapy because it is free. I think that if you cannot afford to pay for an anti-virus program I say get Avast Home Edition.

If you are thinking about spyware... Get SpywareBlaster and Microsoft AntiSpyware

I use Norton Internet Security 2003ish (not entirely sure). It comprises a firewall and an antivirus program and combined they are excellent. biggrin.gif The firewall stops unauthorised access and you can ensure that anything you downloaded is virus free using anti-virus. laugh.gif

Well, you can always turn it on when you go do things like watch tv or something. I always put my full system scan around 5 am in the morning, about 2 hours ahead of when I wake up. Once I wake up, I'll see that its finished. You're not always on the computer, so you can always use that time wisely. Or save electricity if you want haha

I don't understand what's wrong with norton these days. I used to use norton antivirus 2002 and it was pretty good - the system was stable and it detected most viruses. But now that I have installed norton systemworks 2004, it has been harrasing me a lot. It hogs the system resources, doesn't detect all viruses and the main window never opens!! the only nice part is liveupdate. I haven't tried avast, but now i'm removing this junk from my comp and installing something better.

HI all,
Here's a link to a review site for anti-virus software. Have followed these guys for years and they're deadly serious about anti-virus testing. They do all their testing in house and I've found their ratings to be "right on" and without any bias.
Heres the link:Top 10 Reviews
Hope this helps

I'm using trend micro pc-cillin and it doesn't pick up very much and is always having new updates. Norton is meant to be one of the worst anti-virus software isn't it?

yeah i guess......... but it's all a matter of personal opinion. you'll find people dead set against norton (like me) and you'll find those who swear up and down that nothing can beat norton. While not necessarily the worst, they're definitely not the best either.

07.02.2004 Symantec has issued an advisory on a security vulnerability discovered within the
web-based Administrative Interface of its AntiVirus Scan Engine. The flaw could lead to a buffer

This past week I have been taking training at work to become a systems admin. Ita not that I

    Order of program startup. (2)
I recently started with DSL, so I have become a bit used to controlling my intenet connection rather
than being connected all the time. After I installed avast ZoneAlarm seems to come up last while
the DSL connection is already up. I believe I was invaded yesterday in this gap. These backdoor
worms sneak in so fast that if a few seconds is enough. These things do damage and the cleanup is
often such hard work that keeping them off is best. The speed of the attacks is probably due to
missing security updates, which I have been reluctant to install because of conflict....
