Adobe Photoshop Vs. Macromedia Fireworks - Diffs? Simis?

techocian
I would like to know what graphic program you think is best? I use Fireworks but somehow i keep thinking Photoshop is twice as good. Problem is, I don't find myself trying to use Adobe =) I know so many tricks done on Fireworks I just can't break free. What do u think?

It's your choice, techocian.I think you should download a copy of Photoshop and try it out before deciding which one you should use.Keeping both copies will be recommended.(by me)

if you're more accustommed to Fireworks, I say stick with it. Personally, I never tried using that application and have only used psp and photoshop for graphics, so I can't provide you with differences and similarities =/

Hmm....actually did u guys started with Fireworks or Photoshop? I mean like the first time you discovered your talents in Graphic design? wink.gif
I'm such a great fan of Macromedia!! In fact, the only product that i don't really like from Macromedia is Dreamweaver (Maybe thats because i hate WYSIWYG editors...) All the rest rocks!!

i use photoshop, i think its a very very powerful app for graphic design i did use pain shop pro a while back before i got a copy of photoshop and it wasn't a patch. i never really tried fireworks, i do however know that fireworks is designed more for web graphics design as opposed to photoshop being more generalised.

well i started off with photoshop and have become accustomed with all of the tools that the program provides. and i havent even used macromedia fireworks but one of my friends thinks that fireworks is better

Tried a lil' of Firework while doing a Web-Design Course. No match for Photoshop. PS can really work wonders, and I believe is the choicest software for graphics artists.

There are many ways to download a copy of it freely anyway .. (Shan't explain further in this open forum .. wink.gif wink.gif .. Dangerous to say somethings)

BTW is there a Linux equivalent of Photoshop? I do not expect it to be as powerful, but at least can do most of the common design functionalities ..

I have used Photoshop and find it excellent for doing many things. The only exception is that it is not easy to draw what I have in mind cos maybe I am not familiar with the tool.

I am more keen to know what is the difference between Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Anyone knows the diff? Is Illustrator use more for drawing since it is called 'illustrator'?

I started on Photoshop, and I really didn't try Macromedia Fireworks. No time to really get used to it.

Photoshop, I think can do a lot of things, but I really can't make a judgement. To each his own I suppose.

If you were going to work with vector graphics, you would go straight to Adobe Illustrator, since Photoshop and Fireworks is more on the bitmap editing side of things. I would say working with vectors in Illustrator is much easier than in bitmap editors, since there are features in Illustrator that are designed specifically for vectors e.g. Live Paint and Live Trace.

Between Photoshop and Fireworks, both are very good programs. Personally, I feel that Photoshop is more suited in editing photography with its different filters for adding special effects, while Fireworks is suited for web design and development with the ability to control the elements separately.

I think the question of Fireworks or Photoshop is best answered by figuring out what you want to do with it. FW was designed to compete with ImageReady (you know the program connected to PS by hitting Ctrl + Shift + M) and not directly competing with PS.

FW is awesome because everything you create with the Pen tool or shapes are vectors, which makes it easy for resizing elements without losing any quality.

I started out using PS and a few years ago made the switch to FW for "most" things. I think it's easier to use gradients, fills, strokes, etc... FW is more of a Website Designer tool while PS is generally seen as a Photo Editing program.

It really all depends on what I'm doing. If I need to do some crazy graphic things like using brushes or grunging an image out, I'll use PS. I think the most important thing is to get a good feel for what program does WHAT best and use it accordingly!

You know both Photoshop and Fireworks are different. They have different features, but I guess photoshop has more features and power. Fireworks is good for basic graphics and if you want good flash animation use fireworks together with flash. When it comes to power and sharpness go for photoshop. Although fireworks is more user friendly than photoshop. Consider photoshop, it is a professional way of making sharp and crisp graphics for your use.

I would say depending on what your goal is with the graphics design interest....choose the program. For example, if you intend to build a carreer in that direction, you would probably have to switch to PhotoShop (perhaps Fireworks or any other Pro program). But just for fun, I'd go with what is easiest for you, unless you feel you stagnated somewhere and want a new challenge. wink.gif

Chronic? I have a wee question, how did you do those fonts in your sig graphic and av? I've never had that good results sad.gif (didn't know how else to get this question in than to ask it as a ps LOL)
