First of all what is an OFFLINE FORUM, I mean if it is not online nobody can see it the thing has to be online or it is nothing at all, or just what do you mean?

We can imagine a lot of ways of making an offline forum. For instance, sending mails and receiving the answers. So, first of all, we must see what PureHeart means by offline forum.

OFFLINE FORUM is a kind of forum run on client. It will download all the new threads and posts of the forum at one. After that, the user can disconnect and do things on the copy of forum (on their local machine)(reply, create new topic, for example). This will save BW and connecting time. After that, they reconnect and send all their work back to the forum. An OFFLINE FORUM is going to be used for my Dial-up users, because they're charge based on time of connecting, not BW.

Then all they need is to query the database with the new messages which should be nubered sequentially so the query would only download those posts which were entered since their last visit, you would have to have a means of letting the database know what the last message was that was on their machine, the database does not care whether or not the user that is quering them just now came online and will fulfill the query and be done with that request. The database itself is always online but with the users intermittently accessing it is of no matter. Instead of acting like a normal server the forum is actually being used like a mail server but how it is being used doesn't matter even if a user is constantly online but does not make a request for data then the database as far as it is concerned they are not there so I really don't see what the problem with the offline or limited use of the database is you would just fetch all the new messages then log off and the database could care less as well as the user.

YES YES YES  I mean YES you can .. All you gotta do is from cPanel MySQL DB Setup, add the hostmask which will be allowed to connect to your DB. If you want all users to be able to connect to this DB, your hostmask should be %.%.%.% and if it is only a certain segment from IP range say, 213.214.x.x - you do 213.214.%.%That'll enable you to connect - for hostname, set your subdomain's name and port should be 3306. To test your configuration and remote manipulation of your databases, I recommend this tool called SQLYog - a real power-packed MySQL Administrator Tool, the lite version of which is freely downloadable at http://www.webyog.com

If you set up % as access host won't people be able to manipulate your database (yes there is a password, but it would probably be in that offline program, right? + people would be able to query your database till it crashs?

The password which is store in the program is for an read-only account. The program will submit information via HTTP instead of direct query. I've never thought about that before. I may make some query time limitation in the program. Thank you ruben.

QUOTE + people would be able to query your database till it crashs? It's the same thing with your web access, people using a trainer like "loadrunner" will be able to query your database site until it crashes.

Can't Access Any Site Hosted On The Server
(4) Ever since yesterday, I wasn't able to access my site http://maxotek.net , so I tried
others' sites like http://www.handyphp.com , none of which opened. I've tried PINGing the
sites and have received no response as yet. I've heard that there were some changes to the IP
addresses for the shared IPs. Just a while ago, I heard from a friend of mine that he was able to
access the sites. Another one reported of a Gateway Timeout error. Do I need to make some changes
in the CPanel or will this be solved automatically?....

Problem With MySQL
(5) I tried to visit my website today and I recieved the dreadful page from my php-nuke site "There
seems to be a problem with the MySQL database" First I thought, "no big deal server is probably
rebooting or down for a little bit" So i logged into my cpanel and clicked on "Server Status".
Thats when I started worrying. It said the MySQL servers were up and runnign fine. I went back to my
main page and looked at my MySQL server count and instead of saying 2/99 it now says NA/99 I am
unable to create a new database and I recieve this error when I click on PHPmyadmin QUO....

Mysql Connect Error, Too Many Connections.
(1) Just to begin with I want to say that I am not here necessarily to complain about it lol. I'm
not sure but if my site is possibly helping to contribute to the problem, I'd like to know if
anyone knows any good articles or tutorials that might have information on what to look out for that
could contribute to these sort of problems. I know my site may not have anything to do with it (as
I don't think it is overly popular or anything or even close), but knowing what to look out for

Can't access certain forum topics (1) Hi. I have been experiencing difficulty accessing certain forum topics. This started quite some time
back, but I always thought that the forum topics have been completely deleted, thus I'm not able
to access it. Now, however, I just saw a forum topic that I could not access previously being in the

Frontpage & phpBB with MySQL (3) I was just approved an Astahost account with the starter package. I explored the Cpanel a bit
and have got the following problems : 1.Frontpage Extensions The Cpanel states that the
Frontpage Extensions have been installed. But when I uploaded my site on frontpage at

Database Tables Gone?
(1) I wrote a simple web program/site in php that uses mysql as its database. The program stores a
daily record of calories/serving. It's basically a calorie chart. I looked today and 2 of my
tables were missing. Now considering it only uses 2 tables (which isn't too efficient but
it's for personal use) that's a lot missing. It's not a big deal to lose the data and I
didn't have a backup, but I'm just curious as to why and how it happened. Everything

Problem With Mysql
Cannot connect to database.... (6) Hi, this is the first time after I got my hosting to try and use MySQL. My site is
http://abhiram.astahost.com . I created a user in CPanel -> 'MySQL Databases' as root. So,
the new user created will be 'abhiram_root'. Similarly I created a database called
'webpage' (which changes to 'abhiram_webpage'). I set up the database and the tables
using phpMyAdmin and uploaded the files after making changes to the user name and the database. But
it's not opening the database. It's connecting to MySQL without any problems, but it

(0) Recently been attacked by "Can't create/write to file '/tmp/#sql_28e2_0.MYI' (Errcode:
13)"? Then its a simple fix, please DELETE (backup first) your SOURCE files that talk to the MySQL
database, and re-upload them This will purge them from the system and force them to recreate the
temporary files. Do NOT delete your database, just backup your files, delete them, re-upload them

General Problems With New Account
MySQL problems and quota issues (2) I just got a new account and CPanel reports that I have -380.2 MB of quota space and using 400.2MB.
This disables some of Cpanel's functions. It would have been nice to use the automated Mambo
installer, but no biggy. I uploaded the latest Mambo .tar.gz from my FTP program and unpacked it
via Cpanel's file manager with no problem. When I first logged into the system I created a new
Database for mambo and a new user for that database and linked the two from Cpanel. I logged off to
watch something on TV and came back and that database isn't being reported....
Forbidden Access To My Website
(6) About a week ago, I was trying to figure out a way to clear all of my data out of my server. So, I
deleted the public_html folder and trashed it. I created a new public_html folder, set the
permissions to 0755, created a new index.php file, but when I tried to view my website, it showed
this error, a Forbidden Error: http://cbonline.astahost.com Do I have to touch up the htaccess
for the public_html folder or something for the server to remove that message? Thanks for the help.....
